If there is any truth to what Dreger reported he said the leafs could get a 1st a young roster player and a good prospect without retaining salary or taking a bad contract back.

5th is a first

rask is a young player (4th center in their depth chart)

fleury is just a decent prospect

throw in Semin with one of the worst contracts in the league to offset the fact that the pick is so high and to make the cap work.

The 1m retention would not be needed at all i just threw it in to keep the trolls like yourself at bay. But clearly you know nothing about hockey.

Phaneuf for Skinner is the only workable trade I see. Carolina needs D and the Leafs need O. Salary nearly offsets each other and a possible win-win for both sides. Kessel for Semin & CAR's fifth, I can't see happening.

Maybe, just maybe, the Leafs are interested in trading down one spot for an additional asset or two from Carolina. Put it this way, if Carolina wants the guy we value at # 3 out of Marner, Strome, and Hanifin, why the (frank) not!!?? It could be a more simplistic trade with no moving players, just assets.... What about Carolina's #5 and their second to move up one spot in the draft? This is all contingent on Francis telling us who he wants....

Not as crazy as I thought. Semin's contract and personality subtracted and a change in scenery for Kessel. It comes down to Kadri and a third for Carolina's 1st.

My thoughts exactly. It will be a draft day deal. I wouldn't be opposed if I am the Leafs and if I am confident Carolina doesn't want "OUR" guy.

Kessel in 3 years let alone 5 will be wretched. Kadri is a 2nd liner at best. Who knows what the 5th pick turns into? I do know it cant get any worse than how we did this year, and the last near decade, most years with kessel and naz. Move on.

But this trade will never happen, i highly doubt phil waves to go to raleigh let alone the canes making the deal.

i think you are right..but if im building from scratch, which we are, i'd go for quality over quantity all day.

i don't think STL trades rattie, i think they are shaking up the team and will move out some vets (oshie/backes) for guys like rattie to step in to the lineup somewhere

try for as high an asset as possible; i'd take the 5th overall before a late 1st and 2nd/3rd etc.

i'm not crazy about rattie, and their pick is low. I'd rather get 1 real good asset than a few good ones. Don't know if it's possible, but that's what i'm looking for. Henece i'd do this Carolina deal in a heartbeat

never seen fabbri play. Seen rattie, but it was limited and he's in a deep STL lineup so tough to judge.
