Doubt they want Phaneuf. Maybe Kessel but for the 5th overall? I wouldn't do that unless Nylander or a different top prospect was going Carolina's way. Just way to much contract and drama with both Kessel and Phaneuf. Toronto would definitely have to take back contract or a Semin for the deal to work for both sides.

Ward, Rask, Semin and the 5th for Kessel , Bernier , and the Preds first .Depends on what you think Marner is going to be .

Bernier is not better than Ward, and the contract negates anything Kessel brings over Skinner. Especially since he doesn't play defense either.

The Staals are on the clock, I don't think Francis is interested in waiting another 3-5 years to develop the farm. He would have traded E. Staal by now otherwise. This trade makes you guys much better, right now.

And Skinner has done little since his rookie season. He's been injured a lot and has regressed.

Let's get this straight right off...Kessel, BY HIMSELF, is worth more than the 5th pick. And frankly, it's not all that close.

I they offered us the Number 5 and the Pittsburgh pick, I'd make that move for Kessel and a B Prospect.

If there is any truth to what Dreger reported he said the leafs could get a 1st a young roster player and a good prospect without retaining salary or taking a bad contract back.

5th is a first

rask is a young player (4th center in their depth chart)

fleury is just a decent prospect

throw in Semin with one of the worst contracts in the league to offset the fact that the pick is so high and to make the cap work.

We'd actually be taking on huge salary in that deal. Ward and Skinner have a combined 12M Cap hit. Ward has only one year left. Thank God...he's been awful for 3 years now.

Not happy with this in the least save for the pick. Yes it's great but I am not a big fan of Semin in any way shape or form. Can a change of scenery hep? Possibly. But a change of scenery didn't help him get any better in Carolina from Washington.

I am hoping that this is a starting point to launch from to begin talks with Arizona about the third pick.

Thoughts on a similar package of Kessel, Kadri, a pick (TBD) for Domi and Arizona's third?

Now here's realism for you. In a way you are right though. Every Leaf sucks because as a team they suck. Kessel rocks, JVR rocks. Or were Burke and Poile both wrong about them when they were selected to Team USA or were the coaches wrong for pairing them together on the top lines?
