Because trading Rask would be a smart move after a solid rookie year on a team with no depth right now.

@ LeftCoaster

I think Francis' is probably thinking, what do we have that Toronto doesn't? Oh yeah a real top line centre. No one on Carolin's squard can equal Kessel's speed and hands. Put him with Staal and you're looking at a pretty good top line for the Canes.

I see the logic in Carolina keeping him, and I don't think Toronto and Carolina are a good match for trades right now. Nashville would be a much better fit.

Accidentally reported.

But this line of thinking is rather incorrect. It'd be like saying there's no point in trading for Canucks players, because the franchise has never won anything.

Just because the whole sucks doesn't mean the individual pieces do.

- Feeling Glucky?

Great point. Totally agreed with you. Carolina has pieces that Toronto doesn't and vice versa. If Toronto can work out this deal, that give Toronto either Hanifin/Strome, Hanifin/Marner and on the outside chance Strome/Marner. One way or the other, this team gets a potential top line centre for the future.

Things are looking up already and nothing has even happened. Starting in June, Toronto will be stockpiling young talent and from where I sit, it's about time.

He's 4th on your depth chart at center. You'd be upgrading from one of the worst contracts in the NHL to one of the best Wingers in the NHL.

one thought is that the Leafs are looking to unload Kessel and might be willing to move down a spot to do it.... or Phaneuf.

So what do ya think Kessel/Phaneuf and the 4th for the 5th? Sound right?

I don't know if Carolina goes for it.

Probably have to throw in Semin as a cap dump to make the dollars work.

Sure, sounds like Toronto to try and get it all done at once.

that's right... every player that changes teams is ALWAYS exactly the same as they were before...

i) we have never heard of a player EVER getting a fresh start e.g Rick Nash - nope he didn't benefit from a change of scene at all
ii) Mike Richards and Jeff Carter were exactly the same players after being dealt to Los ANgeles as they were before

now where they maybe true... is players like Cody Hodgson - who was pretty mediocre before being dealt to Buffalo and remains that way - but he was a Canuck.

Hey man, he led our team in scoring 2 years ago!

If TOR makes such a deal, would EDM take 4,5,25, Kadri and Gardiner/Phaneuf for #1?

I don't understand the people talking about Semin to Toronto, pretty sure that goes against what Shannon talked about having good players that want to be here, Semin imo is worse then Kessel

Obviously he's worst. He has negative value. He's a throw in to make the dollars work and to get a better return for Kessel.

why not as for Jay Mclement (1.2m) and John-Micheal Liles (3.8m)

hell trade em Bernier for Ward

who cares Leafs are in a rebuild, the idea is positive locker room and good young players in the system, not a 31 year old Semin for 5+ years
