Thats how i look at it. Id put girgensons on the "did good" list too. If he didnt get hurt, he was looking at a 20 goal season.

All along I've wondered what Girgensons could actually produce offensively
If he stays as our 3rd center, he might never hit 20 goals
Less icetime & likely defensive role could prevent that
Unless he ends up on the wing with Reinhart or Eichel at some point

Would u want to pay ROR what it would cost to re-sign him?
I really like him as a player
But I also think a team will have to give him one heck of a deal to keep him from going to free agency
I don't think he's worth 7mil, and that's what it might cost
5.5mil if be ok with,
But I doubt if he'd settle for that

He's going to get that or something close to it, I know Murray like's him but that doesn't mean he's 100% coming here. I would like it to be around 6 a year but who's to say. I'm sure we can get 2 other players with what it would cost to pay ROR.

People need to understand exactly this. Its never a bad idea to stagger out a teams contracts. Cant have a log jsm.

I don't think Girgensons will put up big stats, so his pay days will be limited somewhat
I wouldn't necessarily shy away from an expensive player,
But paying Oreilly all that $$$ could really F up our cap

IMO and I could be wrong but, maybe it would be better to sign a guy like Justin Williams compared to Sharp. I like both players but isn't Williams younger ?

He definitely isn't shy about players with issues. He picked up Da'Rick Rogers too as a UDFA

The thing is, if Girgensons is a lfetime 3rd line center, and excels at it, he could become really valuable. If he suffers from "Stahl's disease" and wants to be first liner somewhere (like O'Rilley) we could lose him to overpayment down the road.
It seems like guys who play 2nd/3rd line center are always lookng to slot up and hit payday. girgensons seems to be the kind of guy to take pride in what ever role he's given. But agents do a lot of whispering in players ears.....
