I'd offer Winnik $1.5M and Comeau as much as $2.5M. With Sundqvist being on an ELC, I'd overpay a tad to have that good of a fourth line. Keeping Winnik allows us to say goodbye to Spaling as well.
I threw a trade out there earlier this year with those two players. Sutter and Harrington for ROR. Maybe we add a pick. Value still favors the Pens, but we're taking the risk of a big contract and potential for him leaving in a year or two (forget when his contract is up). If COL thinks highly of Harrington, it could happen.
So many variables to make up lines right now, but that leaves us with something like
Perron-Sid-Horny
ROR-Malkin-Kapanen
Dupuis-Soderberg/Matthias-Bennett
Winnik-Sundqvist-Comeau
Bennett/Kapanen/Rust/Wilson/Megna are wildcards so its hard to say
- YouMeAndDupuis9[/img]
yeah. i had internally set my limit for comeau at 2.2, but then i mean its tough to quibble too much over that .3.
if there doesnt have to be too much term on it, i would give him his 2.5. that more than triples his show me deal that he cashed in on. that fourth line is absolutely perfect. even if sund doesnt come in guns ablazing, those reliable guys will ease him in.
as far as that trade, yeah i cant see colorado doing it. i dont know if i see ROR as a true fit on that second line with malkin, but the player value in it is so much more for the pens that if it was on the table i think i would take it and then sort out the contract and fit later. |

I think I saw somewhere (maybe here actually) that we may target either Eberle or Yakupov to play with Malkin. If we could hypothetically get one of those guys, which would you prefer? I'm leaning towards Yakupov but I admittedly don't know much about EDM players - Id_Puck_Me
All things considered, probably Yak. Eberle is the far superior player, imo, but he costs a lot on the cap and cost to acquire would be very high.
We don't have much to offer Edmonton outside of Sutter or a D or G prospect. They dont really even need Sutter anymore or else a Sutter+Jarry/Harrington deal could intrigue them. No one else would waive to go there. |

Agree on all accounts.
If Harrington was more NHL ready for top 4, I think they do that in a heartbeat and rid themselves of the ROR contract.... though other teams could still outbid us. |

i think ROR is a stud at what he does. would be great. he would basically be the closest thing to staal without getting staal.
but with his contract, its tough to justify him on the third line.
if they wanted to cut bait, i definitely think teams could outbid the pens unless they want to include pouliot, which i wouldnt do for ROR with that contract.
as far as the yak/eberle rumors. i would kick tires on yak if the price has in fact come down. i down it has to bring the pens into realistic consideration. i wouldnt move pouliot for him. and i dont think theyve marked him down enough for harrington. |

Best part of the interview was JR saying he's not afraid to use buyouts. I really hope they try to buyout Scuderi or at least trade him and retain some salary. Anything is better than paying 3M+ for a 7th D. - Conse
Before the buyout I would put him on waivers, then if he has knocked back a trade with his NTC he may change his mind - then 'when' all that fails buy him out if that is the only option.
I'm no expert but listening to the games he had 'some' good ones that were noted by Mike. If they need veteran presence with the young guys, keep him around but just don't play him all the time until these young guys are fully ready - then throw him on waivers. Who knows which team is going to get the D injuries next year (hopefully not us again), someone will. You also save 900k cap hit? So what's the difference? He's getting paid no matter what but it may just be worth waiving him getting the savings then bring him up when if needed - who knows, someone may even claim him. |

So, just to understand where you are at. You want a player on 6m come into the team but you said this;
Still, healthy or not, I ask again, is it prudent to have a model where, if my math is correct, about 44 percent of the team’s salary cap is tied up by its top four players (Sidney Crosby, Malkin, Letang and Marc-Andre Fleury)?
So which is it? ROR for 6m cramping the cap even further! or spreading the spending over more players less salary each? |

Yeah, him and Zetterberg with no goals in that series. Lousy captains. Should take the C away from both. - madmike71

There's always been a double standard on Crosby. Look at Toews and Kane, they've disappeared for entire series and longer and NEVER get criticized.

Everytime someone strokes Toews' nards, I go back to the Wings series in 2013. The Wings were beating Toews' ass up. He was rendered useless. Kane also but he wasn't neutered to the degree Toews was.
I don't remember which game it was (I want to say game 4..it was a game in Detroit). Toews took another penalty out of frustration. He went to the box. I'll never forget the look on his face sitting in the box. He looked like he wanted to cry. Literally.
The difference between Toews and Crosby.... Toews had a leader on his team in Seabrook who literally opened the penalty box door, got in Toews' grill, told him to get his head out of his a** and get with it. Toews didn't tear it up after that but he was much better.
Don't get be wrong...Toews is a great player. But, lets not pretend he hadn't been blessed with a much better support system that Sid. |

But Toews is the best captain in the NHL and Sid doesn't deserve the C because he lost the locker room.

I remember that. You are 100% correct, it was game 4. Toews kept taking idiotic penalties (3 in row). Sharp and Keith were great in that series and carried Chicago. Like you said, Bowman had a much better supporting cast. Brendan Smith basically lost that series for Detroit. He was a turnover machine and gifted them a couple easy goals. |

He has one more year left on his contract and then he is a free agent. He is nothing more than a money grab. He will want close to 7. This is a pass. If he doesn't get what he wants, he bails to the KHL. He has a history of doing that. Horrible idea. I wish people would stop the fascination with him. Makes zero sense.
As for Yak ... he probably can be had for Sutter and Harrington. |
