And how many cups have we won?

Look at LA. They had picks and prospects and traded them for players that helped win them cups. I am not saying trade every prospect but until those players are real NHL players they are just question marks.

- Stripes77

from a cap standpoint, this is the time to add quality

gionta, moulson, gorges will all be off the books when the kids are set to get their payday

plus if you can move coho, there is cap room for another piece to add

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

You can't expect the team to get any better if you don't do anything to help improve it.

yes, we have a lot of good quality prospects. But other than Eichel, Ristolainen, and Girgensons, none of them are what I would call high quality.

It's time to package some of them up together to get some more high quality players. You need some vets that can help with the youth. If they wait for all of these prospects to make their way through the ranks, it's going to be another 3 or 4 years of finishes probably in the 5-8 range.

You have to give to get. With the current cap situation a lot of teams have, it's very possible they could manage to get some guys from cash strapped teams because those teams don't have a choice but to make room somewhere.

We also have to be careful about the number of guys under contract. With the amount of guys we've drafted over the past few years, it's going to start getting tricky to get them all under contract in the allotted time before we lose their rights. I'd rather trade some of them for a better guy than lose them for nothing because we didn't have enough contracts to go around.

This point cannot be said enough. It seems only a few of us here get that

Remember how many people couldn't believe they would trade Brayden Schenn? That trade definitely benefitted LA. Schenn has not turned into the dominant player everyone thought he would be.

Agreed. I am not saying rip the cupboards bare but you have pieces there that can be moved. Compher comes to mind. Do I want to move him? No, but Larsson showed he can be a NHL player this season. You have Foligno not to mention Bailey, Fasching and Baptise that could play a 2nd or 3rd line winger.

It only moves up to 18 or 19 if the teams below the Isles in the standings make the conference finals. It's most likely going to be 21.
- Pierceme69

It's already 20th as Minny beat Vancouver.

Best they can get to is 19th if Detroit wins game 7.

Most of our prospects haven't even hit Rochester yet either. Your Hurley's, Compher's, Baptiste's of the pipeline will help fill out the roster in a year or two when we need bodies.
- Pierceme69

So then trade them.

Don't trade the guys you have spent 3-4 years developing like Pysyk

There is still Fasching, Poesler etc.

There are always bodies. Bodies are just that we need TALENT

You say 3-4 years to develop then you say 1-2 more years to be on the team, if it's taking that long these prospects aren't worth a s$$t because it shouldn't take that long.

Name me the other guys that have been in the system for 3-4 years that have shown promise besides Pysyk and McCabe? Find me a potential top 6 winger?

I am not thrilled with trading Pysyk but I am not saying Mark freaking Pysyk is untouchable. You're stuck on this timeline of how much time we have spent developing them guess what? Teams move players like that all the time.

We won't be good next year. It just isn't going to happen.

There are multiple teams this season who had more points than the Sabres have had over the past 2 seasons combined.

It's not an overnight thing.

I'm fine with adding a player via trade and signing a few FA'S. But we already swung for the fences with Kane, and we don't even know if that has panned out yet

Because we don't have real top end talent. HELLOOOOOOOOO that's the point. Get true top line wingers to play with our franchise center.

caps scored 16 goals in series
islanders scored 15 goals

it was about as even as a series gets

- homiedclown

Well, Isles went 0 for 14 on power plays throughout the series.
You are not going to win series, if you don't score goals on PP opportunities.

Which has already been done. So why keep drafting players when you have a bunch of kids in your lineup? Move the plethora of picks we still have and get real NHL players.

To draft 3 guys every year that are added to the team like Girgs would be ideal. But that doesn't happeb too often.

You can draft them too. Especially in the 1st round. That way it doesn't cost you Mark Pysyk or Nikita Zadorov in the process.
