I hate to say it, because I'm a big Miller fan. But I don't think he'll see a cup as starting goalie. I think his window is all but closed

I have no "hate" for Ryan Miller.

I enjoyed his rise from mid-level draft pick to the peak of his very impressive USA Olympic year.

The massive national coverage of his emerging stardom seemed to take that edge he needed, and he never returned to that sensational level. Good goalie but not great goalie. Good Guy, and good career, but I fear its only down hill from here for him.

We traded him at the perfect time, and Vanek, he's so hit and miss, with his private life issues and his gambling problem, which I don't even care if athletes or rich people want to gamble big sums of money, but to be signing your very paycheck over to a bookie is stupid and scary for him. If that man played with the fire of Natan Gerbe who would be a consummate ALL-STAR every year. He's so good he can give 85% and be a Top Six Scorer for the rest of his career, but another one of our core.

Pommenville- I'm proud that one of our young gun hero's from the golden team of 05/06 with Tim Connelly playing simply magical stick handling and his growth in front of our eyes from mid season call up from the Amerks to skating around Afredson crossing the crease fearless of Phillips being able to decapitate him, and score my Favorite Sabres Playoff game winning goal of all time! He has and does play 100% and more every night on the ice, totally honest player and smart! Its so cool to see how happy he is playing and reading Parise's mind, they have a great connection! I'm proud for him to be an example of what a Buffalo Sabre should be!

I feel terrible for the Predators as they played well and had a tough draw against Chicago.

If Buffalo is even close to as exciting a team to watch as Calgary is, either next year or the year after, it's going to be fun being a Sabres fan.

I don't feel terrible for Nashville, 3-1 up, you have to shut that poop down, that was their game, I think losing Weber sucked for them big time, that was a huge loss.

I have no hate for Miller, I would give him a hard time as well for those soft goals, Canucks just were not good enough, he was going to have to play better than his best years and they are definitely long ago now. Sucks for him.

I said it before the flames even clinched a spot, but they are this year's dark horse in the playoffs.

Watch out for Calgary. They WILL give the Ducks fits.

Now if Ottawa can come back from down 3-0 to eliminate the Habs. That would be magical.

Doesn't at least some of the blame for the constant failures of the Sharks go to McLellan?

I understand why some like him, but his job with San Jose always felt unfinished and it's not only the players that deserve the blame for that, IMO.

He seemed to fail in the NHL with the Kings and Blues but a great collage coach.
- SABRES 89

If Andy Murray "failed" with the Kings then McClellan is a stinky bum in San Jose.

Check the stats.

At first hated your blogs Mike, but now they are pure gold. It's blatantly obvious to see the difference in quality just at the comments count on your work and the garbage Garth puts out, keep it up man!

Just as a real quick consensus survey after the aftermath of the aftermath, any of you regulars here still wanting to see mega blowout deal to try to move up for McDavid? Because I personally think we have the depth and power in free agency and trading to restock whatever we have to give up. But know full well its impossible because if the Oilers former management wasn't stupid enough before to trade one piece to make an entire balanced team than they sure are now with reassigning the entire staff based on the assumption that one player will for certain be the second coming of christ and our savior Gretzky.

I'll also be the first to admit hard to being a sore loser and want to be the superstar town finally but more so devestated by the whole thing as a fan of the game and the league despite it being their fault this shirt storm fell on them.

I'm entirely engulfed on the Eich bandwagon with my I like Eich shirt, and other such merch forthcoming. Though I really don't like seeing the talk of going back to college or that he's a 2C -_- ugh. Isn't he the 1st kine center we needed for a decade not named McDavid? I'm not sure if everyone's expectations are being tepid or what, but so excited for the season because he is a for sure thing absolutely but it seems like no one can see exactly where his ceiling ends and we probably won't know for a few years. Could be visible could be another stratosphere. Too. Hyped. 2nd overall or bust lol.

Tldr; If Murray can't or he was roadblocked trying to move up to #1 I want a post draft interview that he did EVERYTHING in his power to do so and may even try to obtain him at a later date. He just loses credibility to me in any sort of move if all the talking up and obsession was just hype and he doesn't prove his being committed start to finish on decisions. He can be cold and emotionless when necessary, but now that it's officially his team the moves he sets his sights on I want done with do or die fire

Personally, I'll be pissed if GMTM moves mountains to get McDavid, Malkin or ROR as my perception is the costs will be exceedingly too high. This team is in a good spot for next season to evaluate certain players under a new (hopefully bonafide) coaching staff. I want to see what Grigy and Hodgson can do in said system with said coach.
If they both can put up 20 Gs then at the least their trade value skyrockets.
By landing one of those vets above, our 2016 1st would surely be gone, and I think that pick is a top 7 .... Which is still a great pick.

Morning everyone. A few thoughts here as I was doing some back reading.

I think it'll be Bylsma. It all just seems to point that way imo, unless they get McLellan, which I doubt. I just don't see Babcock leaving Detroit and not entirely sold on Richardson. I think Murray goes for an established NHL coach, not an up and comer, sorta speak. I also think we'll see a top flight asst coach here as well.

Malkin will cost. It could take Girgensons, Zads and 2 1sts for him. Too pricy at this stage. I'd stay away.

Goaltending. It will be interesting what Murray does here this summer. He'll need a vet goalie. This is the most intriguing aspect of what he does this summer.

I fully expect a wow trade either at the draft or over the summer. Look at the cap strapped teams that will need help. I don't see ROR at all in Buff.

Have a good Sunday.

Agreed. I understand it's a common topic on here, but it's silly.

Murray has a plan to speed up the process, but I'd like to think he's smart enough to do so without selling the ENTIRE farm. Free agent guys like Curtis Glencross, Erik Cole, and Antoine Vermette could help fill some roles and contribute. It's not flashy, but it might give you that good balance of youth and veteran players.

I like those 3 you named. Cole and Vermette are the 2 I would target

Stafford, Drew WIN RW UFA 4,000,000
Ryder, Michael NJ RW UFA 3,500,000
Frolik, Michael WIN RW UFA 3,300,000
Williams, Justin LA RW UFA 3,050,000
Ward, Joel WAS RW UFA 3,000,000
Stewart, Chris

All guys I wouldn't be mad going after

He'll trade someone else off that roster before McSavior.

Good post dude. Like a lot of what you said. I'll add my own thoughts to the discussion.

It's tough to say who will even be in the discussion for the next coach of this team. Remember what it was like trying to guess what GM would be hired? If I'm not mistaken, Tim Murray was a dark horse, and that was only late into the process. We hadn't even heard his name for months. I love what that beady eyed douche has done so far, but tearing down is the easy part. Building back up is what will truly define him. But so far, with the Kane, Fasching, Deslauriers trades, I like them a lot.

To get back on track, and using Murray's own quotes, I think he goes after a coach that he wants to have a great relationship with. One in tune with organizational goals and style. Nolan wasn't exactly that. We need a coach who can teach possession, aggression and defence, someone who can have us playing like the Ducks. Babcock would be an excellent add but I'm not holding my breath. I wouldn't discount the powers of TPeg in helping to bring in a big, proven name. I don't think McClellan or Byslma really fit what Murray is going for. Murray has a great relationship, I think, with Luke Richardson, but who knows where he stands with his perception of Richardson in regards to him being totally ready to take an NHL team deep into the playoffs in a couple years. Blashill from Grand Rapids would be a great choice to interview as well. That team is always good, but that's a testament to Detroit's drafting prowess. He always makes those kids play at a very high level.

If anyone is realistically discussing the chance that Malkin will be traded here, pass me the bowl you're smoking. Jamaica ain't got poop on that.

I can't begin to guess the direction of goaltending options. Murray could go 20 different directions. Plenty of young backups to trade for... a few quality UFAs.. I would keep an eye on Cam Talbot. He's proven his quality. There's certainly a trade to be made there. The rags won't be able to pick until the late 50's, again, so I'm willing to bet they'd love an earlier pick.

ROR? (frank) you.

If Chiarelli is worth anything, he will trade 2 or 3 or Hall, Yakapov, Drasitl and Eberle to get bigger and talent on the back end. Those guys should fetch an excellent return.

The west is to just to big for the current makeup of the Oilers.
