Well 71 admitted he was not injured and healthy when he was on the ice for the playoffs and Spaling had more pts than him. - sammy87
BTW..#71 did say a few 'minor' injuries when pressed a second time by the reporter.
There's been ongoing #71 injury speculation for weeks; I think he was forced to play in a series when he wasn't 100%. Pgh realized they needed him in the line-up to keep NYR honest (i.e. 100% focus on #87). He tried though (and I didn't see him give up on a rush by intentionally going offsides).
If you're going to use playoff production, or lack thereof, as your yardstick, then what season/ year was Pgh supposed to trade #87? PLus, #87 is one shoulder check away from potential retirement.
Trade #71 is moot. |

This is what I could never figure out about Shero...you have two generational talents in 87/71 and you do nothing but draft dmen. Would it have no made sense to get them wingers to develop with them? I mean, my god...how can you expect them to carry the load with 3rd line wingers all the time. They have had like 3 legit wingers since being here, Hossa, Neal and Horny. Shero set this franchise back about 5 years in forward development. It will take a while to right this wrong. - Thorny

I just have to ask, what do pens fans think of David Perron? |

Keeping 71 you're looking at and I would keep Lap:
39-87-72
X-71-Kap
Kuni-Sutter-X
Spaling-Lap-Wilson/Sund
Bergenheim might be a good pickup for the 3rd line, no idea where to fill the 2F spot. FA isn't really desirable. - sammy87
super duper... duh |

Malkin is a top 5 player in the world but unfortunately having over 31 million in 4 guys doesn't allow you to fill out the rest of the roster.
Malkin for Skinner Faulk a 1st and prospect
Hornqvist Crosby Stewart
Perron Skinner Kunitz
X Sutter Kapenen
Downie Lapierre Winnik
Letang Matta
Faulk Pouliot
Domoulin Cole
Plus u have a 1st in 2016 and a prospect in the trade.

The staggering amount of uneducated "fans" on this forum who defended the lovejoy trade seem to have disappeared. Surprise? lol you know who you are, so please just stop watching hockey.
Anyone who stays a fan of this team until they clean (frank)ing house is on par with abused people who keep going back to their abuser, or leaf fans, not too sure whats a worse life decision. Ill have nothing to do with this team until that (frank)ing idiot GM is gone. The guy butchered carolina and people are surprised that he set our team back five years? Sid and geno will be out of their prime by the time rutherford is done ass (frank)ing our team and someone else takes over to start the 5 year journey of fixing this soft as baby poo team. If you have any respect for yourself don't spend a dime on anything to do with this team until they fix this disaster. - StabMastaArson
Since your such an expert on domestic abuse, among other things, please do the pens fans a favor and steer clear of the pens forum until they clean house.

I understand a good bit of the cap goes to 4 players...thats why, you have to figure that Shero would have been drafting forward after forward after forward. I know Crosby and Malkin can make lesser players look better, but my god...could you imagine if they had some wingers on 1st year contracts...they would have soo much extra cap space. Next year, they are going to have to use the kids on the backend. That will free up money, but the FA crop looks like crap. If it was up to me, I would trade Sutter for whatever you could get, same with Spaling and Kunitz. I would buy out Scuds, because I doubt there is a team out there, that will take that contact. I guess if a team needs to get to a cap floor, you could give Scuds and a 6th for a 6th type deal. I don't know, but I really do not trust GMJR right now. |

I don't mind the Perron trade that much to be honest. I will get a better idea next year, if it was that bad or not. He has shown flashes of being really good and then some games I just scratch my head and think WTF. Perhaps an off season of working with Crosby will help things. I still have high hopes for him to be honest. |

I for one am looking forward to Martin moving on. He was a tremendous disappointment in terms of puck movement and offensive production for his time with the Penguins.
Not to even touch that his lack of physical anything was downright disturbing. Lift a weight or two once in awhile. A nice complement to the rooks and ELC's and Letang would be a thumper...Someone like I dont know..SIMON DESPRES!!!!
F Morehouse and Rutherford
HCMJ I think should get another shot. |

No tolerance for 'seed planting'. Win now = fleecing the future (i.e. picks for rentals). Tactical asset management that does not foster sustainability.
I remember reading an article 2009'ish about Shero/ Pens + commitment to strength down the middle. I don't remember the source, but the crux of it was the 3C model, good top D pairing, and #29 in net. Wingers were perceived as commodities that could be bought on the open market.
The strategy to use puck moving d-men (valued commodity) in exchange for wingers was flawed. The problem is that d-men take a long time to fully develop and most teams (cap constraints) are not looking for projects. What can you do for me now. Moreover, post 2009, Pgh was supposed to be a FA haven; Cup winner, year-to-year contender, #87 and #71, new building (Destiny's new home).... and by my count, Shero never landed any FA (wingers).
Like I said last night, Shero fleeced - Bylsma wasted. Now, we'll see who gets the chance to fix it.. |

So, trade Malkin for a forward that is an injury waiting to happen in Skinner? That is dumb. When, if you trade malkin, you better get back at least two bonafide forwards that figure to be top six and not one that is a given to be on the IR.
Skinner 18-13-31 in 77 games. That sucks ass. |

I have stayed away from here for the past few days, just didn't want to deal with any trolls. I was proud of the effort that they put in, just didn't have the horses and lost to a better team. I am on the fence about about keeping GMJR, he scares me...and that Lovejoy trade looks even worse now. I saw a stat that Rev was on the ice for 10 of the 11 goals...for the people who said that trade wont make or break the pens season...where are you now? That said, here is what I would like to see happen.
Resign Winnik, Blake, Downie
Tender Cole, BB
see what you can get for Kunitz, Scuds, Sutter, Spaling...if the best you can get is a 6th, you take it. If you can't get anything for Scuds or Kunitz, I say buy them out. There is zero reason for Scuds to be on this roster next year...none.
I would go to Malkin and ask him where his head is, does he want to stay here, if he doesnt', give me a list of teams he would like to go to..contact those teams, kick the tires. You get an offer you like, take it...you don't, you keep Malkin. It doesn't hurt to explore that option.
This team is going to have a decent amount of cap space next year, I don't want them to overpay for forwards...thats the last thing this team needs to do. - Thorny
So much for the "who are you going trust in one goal games" argument. |

You have 87 and 71, you draft forwards, just keep throwing them young F's to play with. Forget about D, you have 58 to move the puck up, and you can fill holes on D. Who cares If MAF gives up 3/nt when you're scoring 6. |

Sutter has better numbers on the third line than Skinner has on the second or first line in Carolina. It's pretty embarrassing.
So, would you trade Malkin for Skinner, Faulk and a first? That would be a terrible deal for Pittsburgh.

1. I wouldn't be too sure about that.
2. If you are trading him, you better get TWO top six forwards coming back. Something like Boone Jenner, Dubinsky and a 1st. |
