Wow go figure one pen has only negative things to say about posts instead of offering his insights and how to fix things.. Probably bc if he did the whole board would tear apart his ideas too...

The problem is now that most of the forwards who would be preferred trade candidates have crap value now. Bennett, Kunitz, spaling and sutter couldn't fetch more than a 2nd round pick or mid tier prospect. Winnik, Comeau, and Downie are good players when they are in their 3rd and 4th line roles. I'd love to resign all of them. Sutter maybe has the highest value due to his postseason success, so maybe send him for something. I'm a big fan of Frolik and over paying for him may be necessary in order to make the top 6 any better.

I wanted to get everyone's opinion on the Kunitz/Crosby/Hornquist line and leaving Malkin hung out to dry. I never understood why Malkin couldn't get Hornquist and maybe have Perron up with the top line.

I'll admit I didn't watch much of the series, especially games 4 and 5, but putting all your eggs in one basket, or one line for that matter, didn't make a lot of sense to me.

Nice work this season Gunner.

Hopefully we sign our RFA's early this time and get some feelers out there around draft time on Sutter. Cole and Beau can be retained for cheap.
Scuds buyout can't come soon enough.

Thanks Ryan for the devotion to getting an informative (didn't always agree with your stats process nor will I until better/more data is available), blog out every day - not always easy. I can speak for moi, I really look forward to reading & commenting on them so thanks.

As for the team, I've said this a fair bit this week, if they ice the same or close to the same with exception to the D which will have our young guns, & can stay healthy I truly believe in my naive humble & inexperienced opinion we can give it a shake next year.

JR was brought in to shake things up & change things, he's done that & some. He has a goalie killing it, & changed the roster to at least give us the start we need to get Stanley back. Trade from our strength not weakness, auction off 1 of our D to the highest bidder & fill the wing or wings with what comes back which is hopefully young & has talent. Give MJ a 2nd year in the bigs & let him settle with a consistent roster that can hopefully play a season together & let us reap the rewards.

Thanks again Ryan, I'll be following even though the Pens are out.

Cheers.

Thanks for a great year Ryan. Your articles have helped me learn much more about the sport than I would on my own and really sheds light on a lot of issues in the penguins organization and solutions to fix it. Thanks for your time and effort, I appreciate it!

Kris Letang has no value. I don't know how you came up with that idea based on two factors ... injury history and poopty contract. No one is going to fork over anything close to that for those reasons. He isn't worth anything close to that. I'm not sure someone would fork over a first round pick for him. I wouldn't.

I think Nashville laughs at that.

I'm glad you asked

Perron sid horn
(Tlusty) Geno kap
Winnik sundqvist bennett
Wilson Megna comeau (maybe)

Letang maatta
Poliout cole
Chorney dump
Harrington

Maf
Griess

They have to let the kids play and have some 2way guys.. If they stink they send them down and hit waiver wire.. Look at all the other teams.. They have young guys getting a shot

- nh4442

That 3rd line would be brutal. Winnik did nothing other than prove Leafs players are completely overrated all the time.. I think he was the worst of JR's moves. Megna over Lap? They tried Megna he was brutal as well.

Everyone with Malkin wasn't working. Perron and Kunitz both looked bad with him. Perron looked pretty good when he was taken off malkins line. Horn looked like crap with Malkin earlier in the season. Malkin wasn't his dominate self and he had no drive. If they say Malkin didn't have any injuries, I would seriously consider trading him.

Kunitz started to show his age by February which is expected. He went the last 25 games or so with only 1 goal I think. They tried PH with Malkin and it didn't work at all. Perron didn't really mesh with anyone and was invisible down the stretch. Malkin was obviously hurt at the end of the season and pretty much useless in the playoffs. But your observations are correct. If Malkin is hurt, this is a 1 line team and has been for about 3 years now. But the posters will tell you that trading Sutter will fix that problem.

Exactly ... and what you get back as zero impact on the NHL roster for at least the 2015-16 season, if not more, then you lose a 20 goal third line center on a team that CAN'T SCORE GOALS. Genius.

The Pens either have to make commitment to playing the young D next year, or start to trade them for some future assets. Certainly you need to find some resemblance of Martin replacement, but we need to see what ELC contract players can do. The only way to balance this team to get the necessary offensive depth is through sacrificing on defense. Wouldn't it be nice if NHL contracts were like the NFL in which the dead weight can be sacrificed?

So what do you propose? Sutter has a higher value than other trade pieces an his price is only going up. He isn't that good, in fact he is about as average as it gets for a third line center. No reason to overpay for that

no Ranger fan could make that statement. It would be like saying a Penguin fan made the comment what if I heard Kris Kreider was gay.

What if the rumor came from a former Pittsburgh Penguin who happens to be my best friends neighbor?

I'm intrigued on who the rumor stems from, but I highly doubt it has any truth.

I'm not purposing anything. Why? Because we can't score goals and he is a 20-goal scorer with questionable talent surrounding him. You say he isn't that good, but he found a way to get 20+. He is above the average line at third line center. Look them up.

Sutter doesn't bring the type of assets back that helps much of anything in 2015-16, let alone offset the loss of him. That isn't up for debate.

Think of it this way....Why would Malkin WANT to stay? They traded away Neal and JJ and gave him Comeau and hoped BB would work out. The team is further away from the cup today than it was 3-4 yrs ago. And he's arguably the most talented player in the world and will also take a back seat to 87. If it were me, I would want the team built around me and not keep playing next years plugs and be forced to carry the load with only 1 other player.
