Winnipeg didn't get a #1 defenseman out of the deal, not a championship caliber one anyway.
- buffalofan19

He's played like one since being there.

I read a stat today that out of all the defensemen on WPG, Myers has been on the ice for only 1 goal in 3 games

Trouba and Byfuglien have both been on for 5+

IMO its an entire contradiction. He says that it takes years to evaluate some trades (Like Bobby Ryan) but then cites the Jets being down 3-0 this year as some sort of indicator they needed Kane back? Kane was gone for the year anyways.

I also disagree that Kane was the best player in the deal.

If Winnipeg gets a #1 defensemen out of it, then that's more important than a winger IMO

- sbroads24

He's not saying the need Kane back, because he actually says that if the trade didn't happen, they wouldn't have Kane right now anyway. What he's saying, is that they're missing a guy like Kane, if he's playing up to his full potential and that moving him means that instead of maybe having a guy that can do that next year, they're going to have to start looking for one.

I haven't seen a ton of that series, with being in Cancun and all last week. But I did see the last game and didn't think that Myers play was anything better than what we saw here. It was decent, but not what I would consider to be a #1 defenseman. And he was NOT good during OT. But, like I said, I've only seen 1 out of the 3 games.

Which is possible, but you could say we might be looking for a 40 point defensemen like Myers down the road as well.

I don't know, I watched half of it. I have been reading a lot of the WPG'S boards on HF and they raved about him. Stafford too.

2 failed clearances and was way out of position. Perry missed a wide open net that shift (or pavelec got piece of it not sure)

In fairness, they're doing what most of us have done here about Bogosian. Post trade you always look for and highlight the good about player x.

Eh. I'm not saying they're wrong, but at the same time, you have to take what people say around here with a grain of salt. When Myers was here half the fans loved him and half hated him. There's going to be plenty of praise, especially since he's still their shiny new toy.

Myers has a lot of upside, but there are definitely deficiencies in his game as well. I don't think he really responds to being under extreme pressure very well, and if you want to be a #1 guy, you have to stay calm and collected out there. He was the total opposite of that during OT the other night. He was scrambling around out there and got caught in his own end for a long time which is not good when you have the long change.

That's been his MO though. Do it in spurts, and then disappear for a while. It's why the same rings true with Winnipeg as it did with Buffalo. If either team is going to win a championship in the next decade, they will need a defenseman better than Tyler Myers on it.

Sure, except Myers actually produced. He played at a 50 point clip. Same with Stafford.

Being the #1 guy on a playoff team that could have won 2 of the 3 games tells me he's doing quite well.

Considering Kane has struggled too I have a hard time declaring him the forgone best player

That's the beautiful thing about the honeymoon phase of being traded to a new team. Most of the time, you're just simply not there long enough to piss off the fanbase.

Unfortunately in the NHL the only thing that matters is the team that won. Could have means nothing.

Thankfully for us, we don't need Bogosian to be the #1 Dman. Or at least, I don't expect him to be one. While I think it's going to take some more time, I have the feeling that's where Risto fits in.

I'll concede game 2 but i think they lost 1 and 3 fair and square. They didn't show up for OT.

I don't think he's the number 1 there either. He's on the 2nd pair no?

Yeah, your response is as predictable as a mullet in Nascar. If you read the comments below the article itself by Winnipeg fans you would fit right in Anyway, I thought it was an ok article and interesting to get a unbiased perspective.

Maybe, I tend to disagree. I think it's more than a coincidence that he produced like he did as a rookie when he finally got a better team.

It also wasn't a hot streak either, he did it consistently through the 20 games he played, and continued into the playoffs. Like I said he's been on for 1 goal out of 11 or 12 while averaging the most ice time.

He leads them in TOI per game so far in the playoffs, so I'm going to venture a guess that says, no.

Is this the first year they've used USA? I remember them using CNBC, which the did the other day for the Min/StL game on Monday, but when did they start using USA?

This is the first year, and I think it's a good move. It's usually right near TNT, TBS, and those channels, which makes it easier to find on people's guides. Plus, with the NBA playoffs well underway, it's much more accessible to the casual channel surfing sports fan.

Plus, I believe USA fared better than CNBC and MSNBC during the Olympics as well, so that may have something to do with their line of thinking.
