Had a lot of players that came up short when it mattered too, not all of it is on him. I'll consider him among many names but honestly have no idea who I'd prefer at the moment.
- ob18

Might be a good problem to have. Well it was a Coaching issue on the part of McLellan or a player issue not showing up when it matters, not seeing a Stanley Cup Final in 7 years with that type of personnel is a little bit of a concern. Even we've seen a Cup Final within the last 7 years. As much as I'd like to see Babcock come here, I'm more interested in seeing what Dave Tippett can do here.

But when? that's the key question. For all we know darling continues to stop every puck, they win the cup, and his wheels could fall off at the beginning of next season. Which I pray doesn't happen cuz I (frank)ing hate the hawks fan base. Another thing is if darling's wheels fall off next round, or sooner rather than later, they have to hope Crawford doesn't start becoming a sieve again.
- benjichronic

Probably as soon as Darling has a bad period and lets in a softy or two. Queneville doesn't seemed concerned about pulling his goalies. I mean when is the last time a goalie won a Cup with a team, and got pulled after the first game of a playoff series?

Ha! They've already won a Cup with Crawford.

You didn't like the Hearst stuff?

Gerald McRaney was an excellent bad guy.

The ending was definitely unsatisfying.

HBO rushed the endi g because the gave anotber project, John from Cincinnati, to the creator. They were supposed to do more eps or a 2 hour series fi ale....never materialized and John never took off

John from Cincinnati was such a weird show. That should could have never taken off.

I still need to finish Deadwood, one of the few HBO shows I haven't binged yet.

I thought one of the biggest things about that play was actually one where Mike Green took a penalty for playing the puck over the glass

He did that because he didn't want to take the hit from Cal Clutterbuck and therefore hurried the play

I think that's what separates the men from the boys in the playoffs -- Visnovsky played, or tried to play, the puck. He did that because he wanted to move the puck out of danger, which is good for the team.

But there's a price to pay for that, and good teams and good players pay that price. Green didn't and took a penalty. I don't want players to be injured, or to be hit unfairly, but that's a play that Visnovsky chose to make, and as you said, that was RBR, because Wilson has to hit him -- you can't just let the guy play the puck there. You have to try to separate him from the puck or make him turn it over

Just a tough hockey play, to me, by two guys doing their jobs

- AllInForFlyers

I think when it comes to players like Wilson, and even Rinaldo, a lot of their hits are more about trying to demolish the player, and are predatory, rather then separating the player from the puck, or creating a turnover. A little busy at work, but if the conversation continues, I've got some deeper thoughts on how the NHL chould continue to evolve in terms of the physical game.

I actually liked it, but it never should have gotten priority over DeadWood. HBO, at the time, had a ton of production money tied up between Rome and DW......travesty that Rome only ran 2 years.......13!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was pissed off about Deadwood and the way it just ended. That was a show that needed to keep going. Al Swearengen was one of the best characters ever on TV.

Never got into John from Cincinnati.

For me, Deadwood was the part of the golden age of HBO......They had the Sopranos, Six Feet Under, The Wire, Rome (criminally underrated), and Deadwood. All just great shows.

That seems to happen with a lot of HBO/Showtime series

Dexter, Weeds, The Sopranos all started with bang and finished with a whimper.

- BiggE

It's definitely true for Showtime. Every show on there had gone downhill by the end. Homeland is still decent, though young. Same goes for Ray Donovan. Episodes is a great show as well.

It's hard to say Sopranos went out with a whimper. It was great leading up to the final scene, which was definitely a bit too "interpret on your own" for me. Shows that played well from start to finish on HBO, for me: Sopranos, The Wire, Boardwalk Empire. I need to re-watch Oz as well, as it's been a while. I think Game of Thrones, True Detectives, Veep all have potential.

Rome was fantastic. Another show that should have continued and was ended way too soon.

I forgot about The Wire in my original post (terrible omission by me).

Oz was another show people watched and liked. Some of it was good and some of it was just silly and over the top.

Reading this conversation had me thinking about Oz. That was a very good show, and I never saw the last couple of seasons. I'm in need of a binge anyway.

The dynamic between Vorenus and Pullo was pretty cool. The guy who played Marc Antony was just a walking, talking Richardhole......perfect for the role of the sleezy Marc Antony.

They start with a solid premise, good characters and a decent storyline, but they never go into a project with any clue as to how it should end.

They can't, really, hoping it will go on for umpteen seasons. Everything eventually dries up.

- tangent_man

Exactly, that's one of the things I liked about Rome on HBO. It was only 2 seasons, every episode was great and they knew exactly where and how to end it.

I loved season 1 of The Following. I think it's been bad ever since though. I'm not sure if it's a network TV kind of thing, but the shows tend to start off strong and then stumble. Whether they're limited by how explicit they can be, or the executives just meddle too much; I'm not sure. Over the last 5 years, I haven't liked any dramas outside of HBO/Showtime, AMC, and Netflix. I hear good things on Empire, but haven't tried it yet.

Sweet. How many points does Barzal have now? He's definitely increasing his stock, but I'm getting worried that NJ takes him.

Honestly, I thought the last couple seasons of the Sopranos were just not that great. The show really lost momentum after Tony's mother died.

The networks are catching on a bit...they're starting to do 10 episode series. Should have been doing that all along.
