I doubt LA and Boston would want to make those moves as they were pushing for the playoffs. Volchenkov is awful. I don't think Hannan and/or Irwin are more than a lateral move. Gleason would have been nice, though. - jmatchett383
I'm not sure about Gleason. He kinda looks like a phsical Rob Scuderi now. He lacks foot speed....wonder if the Oilers would've eaten half of Petry's contract for Despres?

Which UFA was available to provide what Perron (theoretically) can do for $4M or less? - jmatchett383

Kulemin
Jokinen (could have been resigned)

Kulemin w/ Geno, Soderberg at 3C, Belesky in bottom 6 and Fehr in bottom 6 next year. No reason that can't happen with Martin, Hoff walking + Sutter trade. Try to get Downie, Winnik, Comeau on similar deals. |

He got a 4yr 16mil deal, he'll be 36 when it's up. He chased the money to cash in on his last deal. He would have been great here still, he averaged around .5ppg this year. |

Here is more realistic list IMO. Non-FA's included that I'd take over Lovejoy.
Michael Del Zotto Defenseman $1,300,000
Brendan Smith Defenseman $1,262,500
Nick Schultz Defenseman $1,250,000
Eric Gryba Defenseman $1,250,000
Justin Braun Defenseman $1,250,000
Matt Bartkowski Defenseman $1,250,000
James Wisniewski Defenseman $1,212,365
Michael Stone Defenseman $1,150,000
Alec Martinez Defenseman $1,100,000 - stowerkraut
You also have to look at whether those teams would trade them for Despres.
MDZ is an RFA and the best (only) puck-moving defenseman on the Flyers. Plus, there's no way Pittsburgh and Philly would trade those 2 for each other.
Brendan Smith probably could have been had.
If the Penguins wanted to give up Despres for Schultz, I'd have paid for Schultz' plane ticket. Dude got off to a hot start and gradually cooled to a #7.
Gryba provides a lot of muscle and..well, that's it. I'd take Lovejoy.
Braun would probably work.
Bartkowski, again, is probably not as good as Lovejoy.
The Penguins could not have matched what CBJ got for Wiz (2nd rounder, Willia Karlsson, Rene Bourque)
Phoenix is not moving Michael Stone any time soon.
Alec Martinez would be tough. He had a down season, but LA was in playoff spot at the time and he still had 6G and 16A. I think they're looking to him for the future with Voynov gone. |

And no way LA moves Martinez. They are very high on him. They gave him ~$4mil per extension....and Wiz is $5 mil a year so he wouldn't have worked

How did the Blues do last night? Tarasenko scored a hat trick (-3). Good for him.
BTW, are you Flashman?? There was a troll named Flashman (MTL fan) on ESPN Pens Game boards (before they went to Facebook) who would show his face after a Pens loss with something similarly profound. |

I really liked JJ, he played great with 71 and knew how to play to his strengths. I dont blame him for cashing in. He was put on waivers 2x. |

I miss those old ESPN boards (before the FB login). They were so much fun. Fans from Detroit, Chicago, and Minnesota turned it into a circus. |

I don't even have FB so i never go on there anymore. They don't cover much hockey anyway. It's basically Tebow, LeBron, and the NFL. |
