Preds blogger said the game was "closer than the score indicated"

I don't know if I agree with this, any thoughts?

Closer than what? Nash didn't want to engage near the end.

OK...he wins. It was "really" 4-3. Hawks still won.

This closer that the score indicated meme is for moral victorians. < new word created

The fact that 23 is still in the line up let alone the top 6 is infuriating
He adds NOTHING to this team! My god I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. What is Q seeing that everyone else is missing? I just can't understand it at all

Just remember, all of Q's decisions are performance based...

they only lost by 2, but that doesn't mean crap to me. Hawks gave them absolutely nothing in the third, even in the second after hawks went up by 2 did they have didn't have much of a push.

Those must REALLY be SOME pics of the Stashe in action to avoid being press-boxed. Not responsible on D, turning the puck over.
Yep, definitely performance-based.

Maybe he is doing exactly what Q is telling him to do. A few folks have already mentioned it. Even though he is not scoring, but maybe doing all of the crap work the coach is telling him to do (attract attention away from Kane, be a pain in the ass, etc), he stays in the lineup. I'm not actually doing cartwheels over Versteeg's performance either...but there may be a method to the madness.

>If the Hawks intend to win the Cup, they need to raise their game another two levels
>Way too many grey zone turnovers -- that needs to be cleaned up immediately
>Liked the puck movement speed the Preds had during some shifts -- would like to see the Hawks pick up their puck movement speed
>Overall faceoff stats don't matter as much as where and when faceoffs are won and lost -- Hawks lost too many Dzone draws too cleanly
>Ending this series in 5 games would be ideal, but the Hawks have yet to play to their level of capability

Sounds like a moral victory type thought. The team my team is playing against can have all the moral victories it wants as long as we get the real victories.

Amazing how often this concept isn't grasped by fans. Just because a guy isn't getting on the score sheet doesn't mean the player isn't performing in the way the coaches want.

And game 2 was 3-2 with 8 minutes to play with Hawks pressing, therefore...

thats what annoys me. game 2 was anyone's game anddddddd hawks blew it. Think of the position we would be in right now had we gone 3-0.

no use dwelling on the "what if" though i guess

The score was not as close as the score would indicate, there put the two together and puff you are left with the final score.
Just another way of making the fan base feel better, like Fisher is skating and Weber is getting closer to returning.

I do find it interesting that Rosenbloom (local media columnist in Chicago) is now speculating on whether or not Crawford might be a salary cap casualty this offseason. Something I know JJ, and I and others, have postulated for months.

If you're going to trade Sharp & Bickell this offseason, you're going to get significant salary in return. Crawford should net you a combination of some very nice picks, players etc that will take away significant salary from your cap situation. And, unless I've been living in a hole, me thinks Darling might not do so bad put in a situation where he's the number one goalie.

No, I wouldn't say that many. Definitely not that many.

2-3? Possibly/probably.

I would agree. Need young guys to move up, they can't stay in Rockford forever. People are going to complain when young guys get moved, but there are too many to all or even half of them make it.

You need a minimum of two guys a year to move up to stay young and hungry. Also, they learn from the vets when they come up and learn what it is to be a pro in the NHL.

They also can now get 2 to 3 years experience in the AHL to get used smaller ice and man hockey, as it seems that most if not all of the picks are Scandinavian and USHL guys.

The ones you self scout and realize won't make it in your system, you move for trade deadline vet to put you over the top, or picks to keep the cupboard stocked so when you run into years like the one coming up, you have options.
