I liked Hexy's stance on Vinny actually.....He can either agree to terminate his contract, or he can have fun sitting on the bench/play minimal minutes.

Having a corpse waste a way on the bench eating up 4.5 million in cap space is only hurting the Flyers. Lecavalier is getting paid regardless.

Hextall is bluffing, IMO. He knows it's unlikely any other team would trade for him except in a deal where the Flyers take unwanted pieces or eat a big chunk of the cap hit . He also knows there is zero chance Lecavalier retires to get the Flyers off the hook. However, that doesn't mean he also has to come out on April 15 and say the team may buy him out.

What about Maclean, Bylsma, Tippett, Julien, DeBoer, Boucher.... All have much better resumes than Berube.
- PLindbergh31

No Tippet. No thanks on the offense killer. Boucher and DeBoer....meh.

Bylsma, Maclean and Julien I'd at least consider.

And the Flyers should no have no cap issues this summer, so Hextall can afford to ride it out another year with Vinny.

They also have excessive depth on defense.

It is probably just me, but I feel a different coach handles Vinny differently. If you want specifics I cant say how, other than my own opinion that Berube seemed to go out of his way to embarrass Vinny by not only using him the way he did, but giving him a much shorter rope than he gave other players with much less pedigree.

There was a personal issue there in my opinion.

Then he can play for a year and call it quits with another team or not play at all.

No one forced him to take the biggest offer on the table.

Vinny for Stalberg or Nystrom. Flyers retain half the cap hit.

I'd take all of them all day when the alternative is Berube.

IIRC it wasn't the biggest offer. Maybe years wise it was, but I seem to recall either Dallas or Montreal offered higher AAV. I could be misremembering.

They can't retain half the cap hit. The most the Flyers can retain after Vinny gets his bonus on July 1st is $1.416 million per season. That would make Vinny a player with a $3.083 million cap hit, but the team trading for him would only have to pay less than half of that in salary - $1.416 million per season = $4.25m over three years. I think that might entice a team like Arizona.

No, I think the Flyers did provide the biggest offer (could be wrong but that's what I remember).

Biggest offer in terms of total money I believe. Flyers went a year or two beyond all the other offers.

I think the argument for keeping Berube is that the team did not have a legitimate top defense pairing, no coach is going to change that, or make any of the Flyers defenseman into a top pairing defenseman. Injuries to key players such as Coburn, Mason and Read. No coach can do anything about that. Injuries, and or ineffectiveness to Umberger. Not on the coach. Ineffectiveness of Lecavalier, not on the coach. Inconsistent play of young players such as Brayden Schenn. Berube moved him all around the lineup to try and find a spot where he could excel. He showed it only in flashes. Overall a lineup that was not a good mix, players limited for a variety of reasons, none of which is on the coach, in my opinion.

The argument for firing Berube is that the team underacheived under his watch, and failed ot make the playoffs. As well as concerns that if he is retained, and the team gets off to a slow start, firing the coach early, and bringing in another coach, is not a good situation. The best situation is for the new coach to come in fresh with a full training camp.
