I'm betting they keep him, put him on a short leash like Laviolette and end up firing him in December. Circle of (frank)ing Life

Conversations on here. The Facebook comments section. The reporters asking if and when Berube will be fired, especially the one reporter asking detailed questions on whether or not Berube is good for this team and the detailed questions/argument on how Lecavalier and Couturier were used.

I've seen two people making excuses for this guy. You and Hextall and this is the Gods honest truth.

- SuperSchennBros

I haven't made a single excuse for Berube.

And when they start out next season 2-7-1 and fire Berube after ten games? Because that is what this franchise does. They'll make excuses, like they played well down the stretch or the guys seemed to respond to him late in the season, and it's forgotten next fall when they struggle.

Look at Snider...Hextall says around the TDL that he views it as a couple year plan, Snider last week says (frank) patience...

- Jsaquella

Has hextall fired a guy 10 games into a season before? And nothing this year indicated snider stepped in and intervened, so until then, I'm hopeful hextall has the authority and blessing of snider to do what he sees fit. Either way, Its only been a few days since the season ended, so there's no reason to jump to conclusions.

I'm trying to take a fresh approach this offseason.

The Coaching Free Agent Pool is pretty deep in it's own right. I'd take my chances with a guy who could be a game changer for this group.
- SuperSchennBros

If there is one and hextall thinks it too, I have no doubt he will pull the trigger.

I agree. No point in wasting another year with another guy they have to poop can in a year.

I've also always been more on the "it's the players, not the coach"mentality with sports. Yes I hate some of Berube's comments, especially about Mason, but these players are PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES. If they don't have the drive and determination to give 110% every time they step on to the ice, then they shouldn't be here. Berube shouldn't have to get his team hyped and excited to play Buffalo, they should be ready to go into kill mode and go score 5+ goals on their own. I also understand he runs the system and the lines and puts guys in position to be successful, but the players didn't get to the NHL by bribing Ed Snider. They are NHL quality players (most of them anyway) that should be able to go out and play good hockey. In my opinion that comes down to team leadership. I love G, he's my favorite player since Gagne, but maybe he shouldn't have been given the C a few years ago. Kimmo being lost all season hurt a lot and not having Hartnell probably did too (though I am still a supporter of the trade and love Hexy's long term vision style).

I don't think they are that far away form the playoffs and the way the played against playoff teams this year shows they can play quality hockey so if they get in, who knows, maybe they make a run. Homer really screwed Hextall and his ability to upgrade the roster with these terrible contracts. Imagine being hired to do a job in sales and the guy who are replacing told his clients to F off before he left. It'd be pretty hard to make sales and you'd be in a really bad situation before you were even hired and given a chance to succeed. Hexy needs a few years unfortunately.

I agree they are a few years from cup contention, but they could be a playoff team next year with the right moves, imo

I keep forgetting Ottawa is in the playoffs. I've got the Capitals being the sleeper to go all the way but I'm willing to go with whomever comes out of this Caps/Islanders game. I have nothing against Detroit or Ottawa. (frank) the rest of them in the east.

I don't care who comes out of the west. Happy to see three Canadian teams make it. I like St Louis. I really wish the Hawks and Preds weren't playing each other.

I have Tampa coming out of the East, but want Washington and Ottawa to win in the first round at least

I'm gonna be really mad if Tampa goes deep. I live in Detroit, so even if I skip a game, I'll hear all about it.

That's what I'm afraid of. It's always been easier to fire the coach rather than move out some players and even moreso in the cap era.

Make a move now. I don't really care who the next damn coach is as long as he can do the following:

1. develop young players

2. Get this team to work hard for 60 minutes

3. Get this team to play as hard in October as they do in April

4. Hold each every player to the same standard of accountability

It's funny because I think Babcock is the best in the business but Tippett has done with teams with little talent is amazing.

I'll be a little disappointed because our draft pick will be worse, but I picked Anaheim beating Tampa for the Stanley Cup before the season this year, so I figured I'd stick with it

Its so easy to root for these Sens. Wow this Stone kid is a player. And of course the obligatory montreal penalty on Subban that got reversed to no penalty with no explanation already happened. I believe Lava had a phrase for that kind of stuff?

Well there is your first excuse for him because I think he's handled all three miserably.
