No that I heard. The answer would have been the same: no comment.

This pc is a waste of freakin time. All he's saying is "we'll see"... "maybe"... "yeah, he did good but I think he can do better"... "I haven't made a decision, so we'll see..."...

wow... insightful.

Not really though.. We are down on the year in points, a lot of players had down years..

It was a brutal trade then, and it definitely has looked as bad if not worse now that the season is over.

The guys who took Hartnell's spot (Raffl and BSchenn) had career years.

Hextall says your smartest players are your centers.

Indirect confirmation that BSchenn will remain on the wing going forward.

- Feanor

haha.. I think when Hexy says he's going to be patient with the young players, he means it. Cooter, both schenns prob laughton.

Wants to upgrade the D and add a sniper. That's pretty obvious, but I don't know how he's going to do this with limited cap space. I hope he can pull a rabbbit out of his hat.. at least we've been stockpiling picks instead of sending them out with no chance of winning.
- Hextall271

He didn't actually say sniper. He said skilled forward.

What a circle jerk. Complete waste of time. Did anyone ask a question about Reese?
- PLindbergh31

He could still do Berube, but it's clear to me that he thinks the roster needs to get the job done for the roles they have and that he isn't looking to give them an out by punting Berube

Umberger had a bad season and Hartnell had a great one. But it's not like trading him cost the Flyers 45 goals.

When you have nearly 150 points from two guys alone, that will happen.

I'm not happy with the Hartnell trade. You had a rotating LW on the top line and made a change although that line was killer last year. Why mess with a good thing especially when you don't get any real cap help to replace the player in short order????

I think he can likely do the forward, somehow

Don't see a D coming this offseason

Another embarrassing Flyers PR event.
You have had all year, and specifically about 3 weeks to evaluate Berube's performance as head coach. Then you hold a PC and throw out a bunch of "I dont knows"?

Ridiculous.

Lost some confidence in Hextall today, no doubt. Zero reason why Berube should still be coach of this team.

Other than the Berube thing, I thought he was pretty forthcoming. Says he wants to add a forward with skill and upgrade the defense but won't be trading young players to create small windows

Hold a press conf today to essentially say nothing. Doesn't make much sense, but then again a lot of stuff this franchise does makes no sense.

My hope, is that he is holding out until other coaches' seasons are done in an attempt to pursue them. I know he said, in a way, he isn't doing that... but I certainly hope that's the case...

Lip service really. Didn't he also say he has zero interest in buying out Lecavalier? What's the other option? Hire a hitman?

I agree. I wouldn't be surprised if any of the young players on this team would have career years playing with G and Jake.

But I think Hexy just keeps reiterating that the next couple years are still ultimately going to come down to "wait and see" in-season. He wants cap relief to coincide with the arrival of the D prospects and he expects to begin making a push enter that window of being a true contender.

lol i think he is mulling on whether they have another down year next year or not. i dont think they get rid of berube untill they know for sure if the next guy they want is available

I haven't really lost confidence in Hextall, but you are spot on. He needs more time to evaluate Berube? You would think 12 straight losses to non playoff teams would kind of accelerate the evaluation.

I wonder if the public stance on not buying out Vinny and not firing Berube at this time is a way to maybe force Vinny to the table about a mutual termination.

I could just be reading too much into it.

Like most GM press conferences, its a matter of reading between the lines. There's still the possibility that he could trade a current young player for a targeted draftee like he was trying to do for Ekblad last summer.

It's pretty standard to do end-of-year pressers, nearly everyone does them on/around clear-out

What made me nervous is that usually, if you KNOW you are gonna do the coach, you do him before the EoY

And if you don't...that means you don't necessarily blame him, and he doesn't

He's playing the GM game. If he comes out and fires Berube even before the playoffs start, everyone knows the Flyers are in for a new coach. If he waits a bit, and depending on how some playoff teams do (St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Detroit), there might be some more coaches out there.
