Beube has been an AHL head coach, an assistant NHL coach, and an NHL head coach. He's obviously a competent eye.
- MJL

Ah, a resume consistent with that of the great Pierre McGuire.

Edit: His minor league coaching was actually the ECHL as opposed to AHL.

The biggest danger is bringing Berube back, and having the team get off to a slow start, and making the change in season. I'd rather a change be made in the off season when the talnet pool for a replacement is largest.
- MJL

I agree -- if you are gonna turf him, do it soon

How many offensive zone draws did he put out the offensively ineffective 4th line, for?
- MJL

Around 250 times. A lot more than most teams 4th lines get.

http://stats.hockeyanalys...si&sort=OZFO&sortdir=DESC

The four main centers this season measured by faceoffs taken were Giroux, Couturier, Bellemare and Laughton. Whether you want to call Laughton's line or Bellemare's line the 4th line, they had much higher OZ starting percentages than Couturier even though he scored a lot more than either of them.

Beats are all saying they'll be surprised if any decision on Berube is announced at the press conference.

They've been wrong before though. Several times in fact

- PhillySportsGuy

I'm fairly sure the presser will come and go without us hearing anything about who'll be the Coach next year. I think it'll be a few weeks of excruciating waiting until they drop the bomb that Berube will be back. Hextall is rushed by no man.

I could see this happening ... "we're still looking at everything" type of statement from Hexy.

You do have to hand it to Hextall. Nothing seems to leak out of that organization since he's been in charge.

That is why I don't know if people really understand what they are asking for if Hitch were to come back

Let's put it this way: Hitch and his beliefs have never lost a game in his life. When the team has lost, the players haven't played the right way

He is a really good coach. But if anybody thinks Berube's blunt, what do you think Hitch is gonna say to/about Brayden Schenn if he is one of those 2-in-26 droughts?

- AllInForFlyers

1. Move him down to the 4th line
2. take him off the 1st PP
3. scratch him outright.

Berube did none of these things.

Snider retired. Holmgren promoted to Chairman, Hextall promoted to President. Berube promoted to GM. Jody Shelley named Head Coach.

If I were him, I'd come out in goalie mask with a goalie stick, sit down and just say, "Who wants to ask me a question?"

Also: We don't know if Hextall doesn't mind having an a-hole on the bench -- he was successful under Iron Mike, and they won a Cup with Darryl Sutter in LA

For all we know, Hextall might think the roster is soft and needs to suck it up and learn how to win games for each other

I agree...hope Hextall feels the same.

I don't love Brayden Schenn, but if you aren't gonna move him, somebody has to get more out of him consistently and be smart enough to give Couturier two healthy wingers at the same time

- AllInForFlyers

Brayden Schenn has been moved all around the lineup, and on different lines. Maybe it's up to Brayden Schenn to raise his game. A coach doesn't have an endless supply of players to put in the lineup. If he moves one guy off of one line to another, he weakens something else. No mater what moves Berube could've made, he still has a roster of peices that don't fit. Berube consistently gets blamed for not accomplishing something that simply couldn't be done. The forward mix was not good. No matter how the lines are rearranged, there would be holes and issues in the lineup.

IMO, you make the change, even if it doesn't translate to more wins, because you want the kids developing under a competent eye.
- Tomahawk

I agree. I think the long term ramifications of another year of Berube could be vastly underestimated. As much as I think Vinny is toast, I'd rather have him back next year than Berube.

So statistically speaking, if Couturier had the same number of offensive zone starts as Bergeron this season, they would have had exactly identical ES point totals.

I'd like Brayden Schenn to score more of those points when the games actually count for something, myself.
