Not many try the offer-sheet route, but TM seems like a guy who doesn't give a F, and might be up for it. Tarasenko could be another candidate, but it's highly risky sending away first round picks when you're a cellar dweller.

It also has no chance of working. Only thing it would accomplish is tarnish Murray's rep as a gm (which is probably walking the line as it is).

At least in the case of the Toffoli/Jones, there's a chance you get jones in the end. you can "threaten" the offer sheet but in the meantime negotiate a trade instead.

Its tough to decide what Phil is worth. I think he would do wonders on this team. He is a first line winger with speed.

Kane-McDavid-Kessel
Moulson-Girgensons-Ennis
Foligno-Reinhart-Gionta

That's a damn good top 9.

Kessel is an out of shape BUM (channeling my inner 89). He's going to be another one of those players that they talk about in hockey circles after he retires: "yup, if he only had the heart and desire to match the talent, kid coulda scored 40-50 every year".

I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot John Scott.

I don't think he would care, success matters more than ethics in their business by the looks of it. The only real reason against him doing it is history, he didn't do it with the Senators so probably won't do it here either.

I thought everyone else (and some Buff fans) already says he has a disgraceful reputation. Although I may be putting too much thought into hysterical message-board-guy commentary. I wonder what other GMs honestly think of TM's tactics? Admiration? Understanding? Don't give a crap? Admiration wrapped in disdain? True disdain?

Phil didn't show that much fire this whole season put together.

Did any see the McDavid interview on NBC? I just caught the very end, where he said it would be awesome playing for Buffalo.

Didn't see it, but it pleases me to hear that he said it. I, also, think it would be awesome if he played for Buffalo. We have that in common.

is there an advantage of signing right away? I would think not
- hubie

If his season would have ended prior to the end of the regular season he could have done what Ruhwedel did and had this season count as an accrued season towards becoming a UFA and retirement.

Since it didn't I don't see why he would sign right away.

Didn't I read somewhere where his dad or something like that grew up a Sabres fan?

This just keeps getting better. Now, go ahead and tell me Connor is also a huge GD fan too.

I heard an interview where he said his dad is a Sabre fan and he watches the games with him.

I DO think it'd be sweet if he turned pro and grew a GIANT Scott Ian goatee.

Tanking is one thing but I think when you start targeting RFA's for offer sheets it seems to really put other GM's off.

Oilers took a lot of heat for the Penner/Vanek offer sheets and you could make the case that it cost them in future dealings.

Seems like there's a lot of this going around lately. We will find out soon enough.

in looking at the center position since 2007, a 30-40 goal guy is very appealing...

especially if Girgensons, who was on a 20g/20a pace, can get into that 50 pt. range as #2 center

- Michael Pachla

But....
Can he be a 20/20 guy on the 3rd line in a "shutdown" role?
He won't be getting pp time, an his linemates will be more like Foligno & Larsson, instead of Moulson & Ennis
Makes me wonder if he will still produce offensively?

(Goose, if you're out there, don't be mad... I'm just wondering, not slamming him or anything)

Not sure if you ran the simulator, but I ran it 100 times on the mark, and not only did the Sabres win 21 times, but Arizona won it 13.

And, the Sabres didn't win it the first 6 or 7 times I ran it.

NJ actually won it the first time

Not that any of this means anything
