Sabres trade Myers and now he's a "burgeoning superstar" ???
That's a Garth-like exaggeration but its cool since your blogs are typically top notch.
Raw or un-raw...Nolan had to go...everyone knew it...the new coach should be better. I'm liking Murray's approach so far...keep it up Timmy.

- siket71

Since going ti WPG, Myers has scored at a .625 points per game pace. That would place him 14th in the NHL among defensemen. That would rank above folks such as: Keith, Doughty, Pietrangelo, Weber and others.

I don't think he would keep that pace an entire year, but he's much better than what he's been in Buffalo recently

Richardson is untested at the nhl-level, so we can't be sure how he'll end up...in saying that, I look at the sens organization and how Richardson has done in binghamton, and the homegrown players that have come up through the ranks...

pretty impressive

- Michael Pachla

Right but even if true, wouldn't that make him better suited to stay in the AHL? Or maybe an Assistant at the NHL level .

It's one thing if he's behind 7 names on the list but if they've already got the paper work drawn up I'd be a little upset.

not sure he'd want to make a lateral move to Rochester...and besides, just after murray was hired, Richardson's name immediately came to the fore

Nolan was "set up to fail", correct. He was also given a contract that was the equivalent of a golden parachute as compensation. As much as it pains me to say this, Bucky Gleason is right. Nobody should feel bad for him. The Sabres are much better off now, and so is he.

Which is kinda what bugs me. You fire Nolan because its just business, that's fine. But you replace him with another favour hire? I don't think Richardson even gets NHL consideration in the rumour mill if Murray isn't hired.

it's just the way it works...like I said, murray's ass is on the line from here on in...it's his baby...you go with people that you trust and mesh with...Richardson isn't chopped liver, it's just that he has no nhl experience

He has a history with Babcock, too. Although I still believe Detroit keeps him.

I wish McClellan had more playoff success. I like him as a coach.

- grand-magus

Me too
I also think Babcock will stay in Detroit, so I hope McClellan does get fired.
I blame SJs lack of playoff success more on the GM.
They never really had a quality 3rd line, so Thornton ended up having to be the "defensive" center. Obv that takes away from his offense.
Also, they never had a "shutdown pair" of defensemen, which I think u need in the playoffs.
And to say the Sharks lacked grit is an understatement. They've been pretty "soft" for as long as I can remember. No, adding Jon Scott didn't change that, lol.
They just weren't built to win in the playoffs IMO

I hope that whomever comes in as a coach follows something similar to the Anaheim model, in that they have Scott Niedermeyer as a specialist that works with the defense when the team is home. He doesn't travel with the team, but practices with them when they are home.

I would like to see something like a defensive specialist and a power play specialist on staff in some capacity.

Freaky...I've seen 83 game seasons before, but Yandle played 84 this year.

That was a PR move. The fans had no idea who this TM guy was and they were familar with Patty and Teddy. Lots of hopes and dreams. Then poof Patty leaves. TM looks like a hero signing Ted even though I think he didn't want too.

It reminded me alot of the Vanek situation, to be honest. Forced to be reactionary to a departing star, and wind up making decisions that could have gone the other way with more time and less pressure to decide.

Dont remember the lockout then, but was shortening the season a huge sticking point?

Also why did they add 4 games from 80-84.

I know it was mostly about the salary cap.

Besides, the point isn't so much the # of games, but the # of games more than what a normal season is.

94/95 was a strike season of 48 games. The cap wasn't put in place until 05/06.

That's a pace for 28 for the season. I won't list all the good players that's better than.

They were good players that went to a good team, tht was playing great, so of course their stats would go up compared to playing for us.
I don't think that was a surprise.

92/93 Jimmy Carson played 86 games. 34 for LA and 52 for Detroit.

I'm not a Stafford hater. 28 isn't too far off from what I consider to be a "norm" from him (22-ish type guy). If he were to be a Sabre in the coming years he'd have a good chance of being a 25 goal type of guy with the (hopeful) talent that will be on the roster.

I like him hes a bit streaky for my taste. But think he not a guy who can score on his own. heck even Moulson cant do it on his own. As you can see in the Peg you put him with some good players and he produces.
