I like the interesting Nashville v Washington match-up just from a storyline perspective. But I'd really only hate it if Pittsburgh won. Although I may develop hate for a team as the playoffs progress.
- bodiva88

The hate for Pittsburgh over NYR is baffling to me.

God, he must look around that room and just shake his head.

I would do 3 years at $3.5M. Not too much risk for either side imo

He's an RFA who could end up playing for a qualifying offer for one more year.

He's not signing that thing... 0%.

And while that is true, that still doesn't mean you are going to get away with paying Del Zotto a penny less than Nicklas Grossmann

It's not going to happen. Luke Schenn makes $3.6. Andy MacDonald's cap hit is 5.

You are not going to get away with paying Del Zotto less than that. It's not going to happen

- AllInForFlyers

It certainly can happen. The Flyers could qualify him, or take him to arbitration. And if he holds out they will have 22 year old Shayne Gostisbehere ready to try and take on his role of ES point producer/defensive liability.

No, the Rangers traded him to the Preds, who nontendered him.

He's going to argue that his numbers were fine under Tortorella and that the coaching change to Vigneault was a factor in his decline

- AllInForFlyers

You're right, they did trade him, but the Rangers basically gave up on him. He ca argue that all he wants, I'd argue the rest of the team seems to be doing just fine under Vigneault.

That's a cute notion.

And since it is allowed in the CBA they can't tell him he can't (in so many words but I'll guess they have their ways), nor did I say they could, I just said they wouldn't be happy. Doing so is exactly the opposite if what they want, which is to keep salaries going up. An unhappy player breaking a contract to take less opens the door for unscrupulous management types to make players unhappy with the express purpose of driving salaries down.

- Scoob

And those players signed contracts knowing full well that management could do so...and they would be making hundreds of thousands, sometimes millions, of dollars to be "unhappy." My dad is unhappy at work every day for the last 40 years and he makes about $60K a year (which is not the NHL PA's problem). If they didn't want this to be a n option, they shouldn't have allowed it to make it into the CBA. Vinny walking away doesn't change that.

If I were the Flyers' GM, I'd tell him to enjoy making $0 for one of his prime earning years.

If he goes for arbitration, he's going to get $3.5 -- I mean, seriously. Look around the league.

Nobody is saying give the the guy 8 years. But if he is arbitration eligible and you want to sign the guy, the salaries around the league tell you the guy is getting $3.5!

So you're saying all we need is McDonagh, Girardi, Staal and Yandle/Stralman and we should be fine without him?

Flyers hold the leverage here. I'd make Del Zotto prove it next season before getting into a multi year deal with him.

Basically means we just clog the pipeline a little bit more to make sure none of our draftees ever make the show.
- jmatchett383

No need for them to make the show anytime soon, Grossmann will hold down the fort

If I am the Flyers I give him 1 year at 2.75.

If he continues to play well, I lock him up for three years 11 million during the season.

The Flyers are in the drivers seat on this one.

Sanheim should be able to find an open spot on the roster by the time he's about 31.

That's about where I'm at too. Interested to see if Del Zotto would take that deal if offered or if he's ready to gamble on himself next season (similar to a Jeremy Maclin situation).

If you give him one year and he plays well, he's in the drivers seat as he's headed to ufa coming off two good years.

If you want to lock up a top 4 dman below market value, you have to take a leap of faith. Otherwise you just have to accept that he'll leave or get re-signed at market value

So Morin's looking at the 2026 season to find a spot?
