Winnik or Spaling can play center. That 3 million can go towards depth. Also Sutter can go for a depth guy, or a pick.

True. Grass is always greener though. You guys hate sutter, but whoever you replace him with might suck even more.

Other than McDavid...the only thing that makes sense to me is a ridiculous overpayment like

Malkin and Sutter for Backes, Tarasenko, Berglund

* note - every post like this comes with the caveat that I dont want to trade Sid or Geno. I think its unlikely that we ever win that trade. but its a hockey message board so posting just for fun.

I would do the STL deal in a heartbeat. STL wouldn't though.

Do you think Goc or Lappy had any real impact on this team and their ability to win? I don't.

Gov versus Lapierre on the Pens at ES this season:
Lapierre in 288:11 TOI has a relative shots for% of -12.27 and relative goals for% of -36.01.
Goc in 372:15 TOI has a relative shots for% of -2.09 and a relative goals for% of -9.09.

Goc wasn't good. Lapierre is not an NHL player.

The plastic things on the end of shoelaces are called aglets. Snapple blows my mind with these knowledge nuggets. Sorry to get off topic. Carry on with the trading of our bad depth players

So they both suck really bad and shouldn't be on our roster but one is worse then the other in the 6 minutes of ice time they see. I just don't see that as impactful.

Adams, Lapierre, and Scuderi for Hedman and a 6th.

Good luck.

Point totals aside, J.Staal is the best in the league at what he does.

I guess. The issue with replacing a guy like Sutter in free agency is that you're overpaying. So yea you might get a guy for $1.5M but he's actually only worth $750k (see: Glass) and sucks.

Prospects are nice because they're on ELCs and might make 900k but provide value of 3.5M or more.

Clearly a cap dump for Tampa glad they included the 6th

I don't know many prospects who can provide value of $3.5M over the duration of their ELCs.

Basically every decent 4th liner is overpaid in FA. Brian Boyle, Prust, Hendricks, Clarkson, etc.

For depth?
- rangerdanger94

The whole point of this is depth. If we clear that 3.3 mil we can sign other players to fill out our bottom 6. That 3.3 can fill out two slots on the 4th, which we will need now that godsend GOAT epic man Craig Adams is retiring after this season. Who do you clear in order to make space for a better bottom 6? Sutter and Spaling are the two obvious candidates and Sutter EASILY should be the first one to go out of those two.

That is not a insignificant difference between the two. Anyone can see that. Lapierre is 6 times more likely to have a negative shot differential and 4 times more likely to have a negative goal differential.

I think you keep both Sutter and Spaling and add a guy like Stempniak for 900k and mix in Sundqvist and Kapanen.

Sure.

So anyway, who from this year's true rookie class are providing $3.5M worth of value this year?

This Lapierre vs. Goc argument is absurdly dumb. As a competent 4th line C, Goc wins hands down. The only people who think Lapierre is better are people who overinflate the ability to hit well. Our fourth line sucks? OK. Fair point. You think its soft? OK. Fair point. But adding a guy who is a fair checker but can't do anything else doesn't fix that. Making the fourth line grittier doesn't necessarily make it better. Lapierre was a downgrade over Goc.

It's really a non issue both guys suck and they play very little. If we are nit picking about this then I think we are lined up pretty well to make a cup run.
