I can live the mistakes Pouliott makes, he will learn more playing in the NHL rather than the AHL. I believe if he makes those plays in the AHL he gets away with them whereas he can't in the NHL. I have a much bigger problem with Martin's give away and then watching behind the net as Dubinski knocks in the loose puck from the goal crease.

Even if the team is fully healthy, the D is pretty much 58 and 3. Martin has been pretty much average all season same with Hoff. After those 4 its just plugs. This year Martin has shown his age.

Until Maatta went down the team was in the top 5 GA/G. They were strong on ES SA/G as well so it certainly wasn't just goaltending bailing them out. The defense would be plenty capable of winning a SC if they had a full lineup.

If Letang and Hoff are back for the playoffs, I don't see any chance of Cole sitting. That means either DP or Scuds has to sit. Tanger/Martin, Hoff/Rev and then Cole/Scuds/DP. I think DP playing 14-16 minutes a game is fine. DP over 16 and I think he gets into trouble.

I have to admit, Cole has impressed me since his acquisition. I actually like him a lot.

I'm all in favor of calling up the entire WBS first line of Wilson, Ebbett and Tommy Nonstopalous.

Someone outside of Sid needs to man the (frank) up and compete.

If they manage to miss the playoffs it will be one of the most epic fails in recent Penguin history...and that says a ton considering the flame outs and blown chances this team has had.

For the sample size of DP, outside of a few times in certain games, he hasn't shown much yet.

I do like Cole over Scuds though.

I'm wondering how many people think this is going to get better next year. It won't. Fine, we have maybe 12 million to go out and play with assuming Martin is gone along with Ehrhoff; Downie at 1 million; Adams and Comeau at 700k each. Problem is we have many holes that need to be built which will leave us with an awfully green defense next year with Pouliott, Harrington and Dumo getting heavy playing time due to their contracts.

I have already written next year off too. Until we change our ways; stop with the ridiculous win at all cost mentality and trading away all of our high end picks, we won't go far.

I am honestly ok with Letang/Maatta, Rev/DP, Cole/Doums as the Dmen. I think thats a solid core right there to be honest. The best part is, it is cheap. That leaves money to be spent on the forwards. I think they could build some real good depth with that money and a few trades. Do whatever you can to trade Scuds, Spaling and Sutter. Keep Winnik at a decent cost. He has shown he can fill in the top 6 when needed. Think he is a guy that can move up and down the line.

It's beyond comprehension on how poorly this team has been handled and developed. The future is downright frightening.

An awful lot will have to go right to keep the Pens competitive if in fact they keep 87 and 71 into their mid 30's.

I just hope 71 and 10 can get back soon. 58 looked so out of it after the Doan hit I have a hard time believing he can return for the first round.

To me, you sit Bennett and Adams and one spot goes to Malkin when he gets back. Bring up Wilson, Rust, Farhharm, anyone from WBS

Perron-Crosby-Hornqvist
Kunitz-Malkin-Comeau
Winnik-Sutter-Spaling
Wilson-Lapierre-Downie

a lot of it rides on Tuesday versus Otttawa.

with 5 games, including tonight, remaining, the most points the Senators can get is 100 points.

Penguins have 95 right now with 4 games left, therefore a max of 103 points.

So that's a 5 point swing, win on Tuesday and you dont end it, but you pretty much end it.

I bump Winnik back up with Sid. At least he's playing with the same speed and passion. Perron has simply sucked for weeks now.

Need to put an APB for Kuni's hands. Not only is he having trouble scoring, he can't even accept passes anymore.

i was thinking Winnik on Malkin's line but i kept him in the bottom 6 because i think he can help out Sutter and the 3rd line more so than the top 6. You know based on Crosby's play lately that he and Horny will show up ready to play. you know malkin has all year. so you know both of those lines will be involved. I think Winnik would be more useful in trying to make Sutter look like a competent 3rd line center.

Pens need to beat the Sens next week!

Edit: Worst possible result with OT Caps Sens. Just more bad news people so we haven't hit the trough yet! But we still hold a playoff spot!

I think you have to maximize the top two lines. I don't think Perron in the top 6 does that right now. Dude is stone cold. Beyond that, he's skating like a bum.....can't believe it's the same player.

Nice Washington tied it!

Perron's mistake was epic. Just brutal.....he's been brutal. Pouliot is in over his head at this point. Really hate the fact that nobody seems to understand that and be extra careful when he's on the ice.

I really blame the forwards for this slump. Just not playing smart hockey.

He was -3 and earned it. Borderline tragic in his own zone. Can't afford that right now.

An unfair isolation, imo. No one showed up outside of Sid and Hornqvist. Scuderi had a terrible turnover but CBJ didnt score. It just sounds like 45 Dan Bylsma's on this board that freak out when a young player makes a mistake or has a poor game. At least hold the vets to the same standard.

It's not unfair. They need any and all experience they can get right now. They can't afford a young guy learning the ropes at the moment. I'm all for letting the young guys learn, but we're 3 f'n points from being out of the playoffs.

I think the argument is that there really isn't a superior option at the time. Pouliot has had some really strong games too. Those will be almost non-existent from Dumoulin/Harrington/Chorney.

I dont think it is unfair at all. DP looked out of place in the defensive zone all game. Obviously the turnover was the nail in his coffin for the game.

it's not a big deal, play him next game and let him get out of it. i think he is still our better option come playoff time.

good young players will have bad games, doesnt mean you can give them free passes.

By all means, when Geno comes back and we go down a defenseman, go ahead and put Chorney in for Pouliot and Ebbett in for Bennett. I'm sure that's exactly what we need to win.
