I am not even looking for them to say the word dirty.

I am looking for Ryan's word.

It's not 'impossible' to admit Cooke was dirty. So was Neal. Neither of them are currently employed by the Pens either.
- jfkst1

First thing I thought when I saw buffs crosscheck. Wish it was staal that got it really.

As for the idiot about cooke....cooke was a dirty player. .for sure. ..every team has one or two...some teams have a lot more. The nhl is tantamount to the wwe these days.

As for borts...never was worth a suspension...but if it is..doans is also. If downie or rinaldo or carcillo or some other meathead lays out that hit...they are gone for double digit games. That is one of the many issues with the nhl. I am quite sick of seeing our players get run..injured and knocked out for many many games and never even see calls for penalties.

We can circle back to staal on sid....same bs as buff...not even a powerplay to be had. THrow in the questionable calls in every game all year...all teams..not just ours...and u really have to wonder about what the hell the nhl is trying to accomplish here.

The problem is that because Doan is such a nice guy he came out & admitted he wanted to stop Letang getting around him ie. interfering with him any way he could to slow him down. He wasn't 'finishing his check', he wanted to stop him - different things in my book with different intentions.

Are you allowed to push someone over as a check? Serious question. I thought you could only use your body (not your arms by extension)??

I said after the hit here that if it's not going to get penalised every Pens player should be doing the same - why not? The thing is that Tanger has been concussed because of it & isn't that what the fuss about fighting is all about?

Some numb nut in the NHL came out & said "he lost the physical battle" about a Bolts player getting slammed. Well done champ, now that player is out for probably the rest of the season because of a hit that was late & unnecessary.

So on 1 hand concussions are ok if it's a 'hockey' concussion, but if it's fighting & no injury it's not ok. Isn't fighting in the rules? Late checks aren't are they? Hmmmmm

Edit: Garrison was the player hit & injured.

Pushing a guy over with your arms is ok and considered a check.
Lots of hypocrisy in the game because of an arcane "code."

I think that should have been called boarding...

Boarding – A boarding penalty shall be imposed on any player who
checks or pushes a defenseless opponent in such a manner that
causes the opponent to hit or impact the boards violently or
dangerously. The severity of the penalty, based upon the impact with
the boards, shall be at the discretion of the Referee.

- Jakes_04

He was far enough away from the boards and was hit in the chest, not exactly defenseless, and I don't think this hit is what the rules have in mind when boarding is called. He took an awkward tumble, but the contact with the boards was just bad luck. Honestly if you have supplemental discipline for this hit, you need to have it every time a forward dumps a puck and gets stood up at the blue line. There is interference on every shift in the NHL. Right now it seems that fines/ suspensions get handed out based on who is doing the hitting/ who got hit and the level of injury. I think that's what everyone wants taken out of it. The Bortuzzo hit has been brought up quite a few times here and if it wasn't Jagr getting drilled, Bortuzzo gets a 2 min minor, tops. Supplemental discipline should be reserved for poop like what Buff did, completely reckless actions with intent to injure, I don't think Doan had any idea throwing that hit would have anywhere near the consequences it did.

Fair point, but, Downie has done everything he could to earn a reputation where he will never get the benefit of the doubt.

I love the hypocrisy of Rangers fans talking about how "dangerous" Byfuglien's crosscheck on Miller was when Staal was doing it repeatedly to Crosby throughout a series.
- jfkst1

Shhh. It was playoff hockey according to them. I personally enjoyed listening to them female dog on how the two incidents were different. Both were crosschecks to the back of the neck yet Staal's wasn't bad. There isn't a more hypocritical fanbase than Rag fans. Remember this is the same fans that don't think Krieder does anything wrong.

But Rick Nash's hit on Kopecky was perfectly necessary. Did I do that right? I mean you seem to be the right person to criticize dirty head shots.

Because when Byfuglien x-checked Miller, Penguin fans on HB brought up Staal-Crosby. You bring this all on yourself. Letang doing douchey things vs Detroit, getting 22pim on one play, hockey gods repay him with Doan hit. Is it fair no, but balance is justice.

It's sad that fans can't agree all bad hits are bad hits. There is a time for rivalry but when it comes to player safety if we can't agree the league is aware of that. The league is cognizant of the bloodlust of meathead fans who pay for tickets to games. I used to have season tickets, now if I go to two games a year that's about it. I am still a fan but tired of the lack of quality of play due to the leagues inability to protect it's players. Can we agree injuries are bad for the game and discuss that instead of finger pointing?

According to the rules of the league at that time it was a clean hit... there was no suspension!!!! Are you really going to argue that the league likes Matt Cooke an that's why he was not suspended????!!!! The guy was an inch from being tossed out of the league.... unnecessary yes, dirty no

Flyer fans yelling about dirty players is the equivalent of the "pot calling the kettle black"

So, according to this logic we can`t do anything to eradicate dirty plays ever. Since every team on the league had a player do a dirty play at some point on the past years, we all bring this on ourselves.

Great point, hockey is doomed beyond return.
Really, great logic.

tempt fate long enough it might. Do I really have to run down the list of dirty acts committed by Players playing for the penguins at one time or another.

Do we need to go over the list of dirty things that have happen to the Penguins also? I mean, you act like the Pens never got dirty hits on them....pre cooke days.

How many dirty hits has Crosby made in his career? Yet he still gets them on him over and over again...where is the logic in that

So, Letang female doging about a penalty that wasn't called; gets 10 minutes for saying something to the ref on an obvious missed call and he is a douche? Got it. Hope Dubinsky gets carried off the ice today on a stretcher.

Hit was clean in form. You can argue all day about the lateness of the hit, but the reality is it wasn't that late. We've all seen and will see hundreds of hits that are later than that on dmen moving the puck. I don't think it's fair to punish somebody for the result of a hit if the action itself was clean.
