So sick of the "You guys had Matt Cooke/James Neal" defense. Most (not all) Penguins fans do not excuse those hits at all.

When you say "most" do you mean on here or in general?

Well....at least now the Pens have to fight for their lives in the final stretch to even get into the playoffs...This hasn't had to happen since.......2009.

The way I see it, if they cant win the required games to get in, in the next 4 games, than how far would they be going anyway?...I think they can do it.

Great hit. Savard needs to keep his head up.

Pens are in desperate need of a mini rebuild. I wanted to do it before last season when the cap was so artificially lowered after the lockout, the Pens almost had no chance to win last year. I thought last season (and yes I said it at the time) Pens should have moved on from Kunitz, Martin, and perhaps even Duper. Unloaded those salaries, collected draft picks and/or young players, and tried to reload for the last 5 yrs of Crosby and Malkin primes. But alas, they kept the win now mentality, kept way past their prime players, moved high picks for overrated players like Perron, and now you see what we have.

We have a team with a thin prospect pool (a death sentence when you have your core 4 taking up so much cap space), 3 severely overpaid and untradeable vets, overrated d prospects, and a fragile core. Not good. The next 3 or so years aren't going to be any different unless something drastically changes. Unless they move either Malkin or Letang, this is a playoff team capable of winning a round or two but that ain't winning a Cup.

Congrats Shero, Mario, and JR...you've recreated the mid-90s Pens.

@JoshYohe_Trib: Adams 0 goals in 59 games; Lapierre 0 in 31; Bennett 0 in 29; Spaling 0 in 22; Kunitz 1 in 17; Comeau 1 in 14. That's 1/2 of their forwards.

That's not very encouraging going into the playoffs. Not resigning adams and lapierre will be the best offseason moves the pens have made in the last 5 years.

I'd say the biggest problem is the fragility of the core players. Doesn't matter how effective they are if they can't stay healthy and it's impossible to have a competitive team with huge portions of the cap being lost on injured players.

To me it's simply the lack of depth. Blackhawks lose Kane, yet go on to win like 4 in a row. Ducks lost Corey perry for a good chunk of the season and are president trophy contenders. Sid and geno are elite players, but losing one of those players shouldn't be the reason why the team slumps and can't score

I love Penguin fans talking about how "unnecessary" hits can be now that Matt Cooke is off their team. As Marc Savard still eats with a straw...
- jimbro83

Didnt he come back from that hit?

I think I remember something about Hundwick giving him his 2nd in a few months and hes been done. not sure

That's just absolutely ridiculous, and yet, the team won't give any the WBS young guys a chance. The above have set the bar pretty low in terms of goal production. How can any of the call-ups (if allowed) be any worse?

this really seems like Kunitz will be traded. I'd love to see the pens somehow trade sutter and Kunitz and pick up Frolik and Bergenheim in free agency.

Forward depth is definitely an issue. But right now the blue line is as much a problem and no team is going to compensate for 3 out of the top 4.

The call-ups have been just as bad.

Ebbett 24 games 1 goal
Rust 14 games 1 goal
Megna 12 games 0 goals
Farnham 11 games 0 goals

I've been pretty optimistic lately, but I think this game determines everything. This is the most important game we will play this year. A win and we bounce back with confidence and take that into the playoffs. Lose here today and we will miss the playoffs.

Go Pens.

I think they make it no matter what. But if they drop to the 2nd wild card and play NYR, that's a tough first round draw.

I the pens don't make the playoffs anyone not named Crosby, malkin, Letang , Maatta and Pouliot will be available. Duper will be back.. no trade value... Kunitz 50/50... nice cap number ... would be trading low

Martin, Lap, Adams, hoff gone

Resign winnik

Coach and gm fired

So the refs already handed this win to the Flyers? We're already there?

You know, at the risk of going into "troll" territory, do you think it's strange that the refs apparently call everything against the Pens and nothing against the opposition when every other fan base complains of the same thing with their team?
