Voracek just is on another level when they dropped him to coots line. Coots just couldn't keep up
- Just5

One of the biggest misnomer's in hockey, is that a player has to keep up. Mike Knuble couldn't skate like Gagne could, he didn't have a problem. Not many players on the team can keep up with Voracek. It's how players compliment each other, that makes up a good line. Regardless, it was given just as an example

There are a lot of bad skaters in the league. Some have made there way to Philadelphia. Most players will always face their shortcomings, no matter how prefect many would like them to be. It's all about find a position in which they can succeed.

Over the course of 70+ games, he hasn't had that many breakaways or one timers. Couturier is not ever going to be a player, who is going to score a bunch of goals on one timers, nor is he a particularly fast player who is going to get behind the defense a lot for breakaways. That's not his game.
Couturier was a top scorer in Juniors. I don't think anyone expects him to be a top scorer in the NHL.
I would trade Giroux or Voracek if I thought it would make the team better.

- MJL

As I have said all year, to me their is nothing untouchable about Couturier or B Schenn because what they have brought so far can be accomplished by other players.
Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds and Mason are the untouchables because it would be a lot harder to replace what you lose in moving them then it would be to replace what you lose in moving Couturier or Schenn. .

I don't think you and I are ever going to agree on Couturier.

I see him as a solid 3 line checking center who , in an ideal\perfect solution, may be able to give you a few points here and there. Their have been multiple plays this season where his strong point , defensive play, was missing. You see him as something more..

The reality of Couturier is probably some place in the middle of how I see him and how you see him.

I was being sarcastic but I have to admit, that's one hell of a comparison. Dustin Brown is widely inconsistent but still managed to make a name for himself.

Brown is an inconsistent scorer, but he doesn't disappear like Schenn sometimes can.

I don't get the Couturier hate. I don't get how so many could be so down on a kid who is 22 years old. They know all of the usage stats, obviously have a clue about hockey, yet throw all logic out the window and talk about him as if he has reached the pinnacle of his career and can never get better.......at 22!!!

I find the whole exercise ridiculous. And will continue to see it as ridiculous until he gets to be 25, 26 years old.

That is when I will reevaluate and determine on whether or he is nothing better than a third line center in this league whose biggest issue is that he cant score on breakways....

Comon can we please get real here?

Where is the hate for Couturier in saying that I find neither him nor B Schenn untouchable?

Maybe other people hate on him but contrary to what his ardent supporters on this site thinK i haven't said anything unfair or unwarranted about him this season.

Who hates Couturier? My question is, what's the difference between being 22 and 23?

Couturier is 22 and has played 281 games
Schenn is 23 and has played 268 games.

I never understand how people say Couturier is still young while Schenn has hit his limit.

When you're dealing with a young player, that is 22, do you trade him based on what he is now, or what you think his potential is? It's true he may not reach the potential he has, but that's why they call it potential. What is also true, is that you can get burned by giving up on a player too early. He's a solid 3rd line checking center now, but is that what he's always going to be. In my opinion, how he's been used and the situations he's played in, shouldn't be ignored when looking at his current offensive output.
The only player I would include Couturier in a deal for is for a true top pairing two way defenseman. Other then that, he's off limits. I personally think when all is said and done, a player like Simmonds is easier to replace then the player that I think Couturier is going to become.
I think we see the same player currently, I'm just looking at the future, and what he can become, as part of the future. I certainly hope that you don't think what he is now, is what he's always going to be.

It's not just speed. It's the processing of the play. Certainly familiarity has to do with that. But it just seems like coots is not anticipating out there with jake.

Knuble was a winger who just had to go crash the net. I didn't like knuble and always thought he was an anchor

What I think the issue is, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but I get the feeling that you are defining him as a player based on this season. I think that would be a terrible viewpoint to base trading Couturier on, from a player management standpoint.
