@markhmasters: Who is the NHL player your play would most likely be compared to? Connor McDavid says Tyler Bozak http://www.nhl.com/ice/ne...m?id=760162&cmpid=nhl-twt

questionnaire was submitted in 2013 though, and Bozak did have a good season before the questionnaire (2012-2013 leafs made the playoffs)

We're a rebuilding club and therefore should grab the BPA. BPAs are:

1. McDavid

2. Eichel

3. Hanifin

4. Strome
5. Marner

The bigger the space between players, the bigger the skill gap. If we're picking 3rd, we draft Hanifin. I wouldn't be opposed to trading down to 4th.

To TOR: 4th overall, nurse
To EDM: 3rd overall

I dont see Hanifin as being as mobile as Doughty. Havent seen him play much but from what Ive seen he looks more like a Seabrook type... which is still a damn good comparison. Either way if edm is at 4, we will gladly take strome or hanifin.
- Zinner21

Oh, Hanifin moves as well as Doughty. From McKeens hockey:

"Blessed with great size, outstanding four-way mobility and confident puck skills, Boston College freshman Noah Hanifin continues to hold down the third spot. His high panic threshold and overall poise under pressure allows Hanifin to dictate the pace of the game from the backend. Through strong positioning and an edgy defensive game, Hanifin proves to be as impactful on the defensive end as he is on the attack."

I am really not confident in drafting US players - seems more risky to me. I would sooner draft a Swede or Russian. We tried drafting US players but I don't think its really worked out for us. I say just keep trying to sign them as FAs out of college - that seems to work out (even though its a low % chance of succeeding, at least they come free and you aren't using a high draft pick)

More on Hanifin:

The 2015 draft’s top defenseman…a smart and powerful two-way force… big, but very mobile... moves well with good speed and agility…uses his strength and reach very well when he rushes the puck, and he is tough to contain when he gets going…is skilled and confident with the puck and has the ability to take it end-to-end…used his size and body well to contain players and box them out on the walls…is smart and makes great defensive decisions…has an instinctive knack for knowing where his teammates are on the ice…supremely skilled quarterbacking the power play. I don't understand why we need to increase bernier's salary by 10 percent if we resign him. Is this the rule for all RFAs?

If we choose hanifin this year, how's the Draft looking next year for Centremen? Is it a great Draft like this year? Or is it average?

In some cases, it's understandable. This guy has the potential to end up as one of the best US defencemen ever. Whoever we take, we must just be patient with them...

We could regret skipping over Hanifin... but looking at next year's D heavy top prospects I would go strome, hanifin, marner (if he does not project to be an nhl centre)

Chychrun looks like a great compliment for Reilly so far....

Erik Johnson, Jack Johnson etc.

Looking around the NHL, not too many top pick Americans who came from the NCAA who lived up to the hype. Even guys like Patrick Kane played in the OHL.

I don't agree with taking Hanifin. If you look at the leafs forward depth chart. It doesn't look good.. We need a 1st line center. I know we have no top pairing defencive prospects.. But if we can maybe just select Brandon Carlo at 15-20 for a aquired draft pick, we would be fine.

Strome is that Player to select.. Good old hometown boy that wants to play in toronto and will compliment Nylander very well

So Toews being good is because he's Canadian... and Kane being good is because he played one year in Canada?
