How do you feel about GMJR's first year in charge? I feel like on paper he's made your NHL roster, when fully healthy, better but overall it's worse when you consider the assets youve lost. Trading two draft picks for Winnik for example will continue to damage your long term depth.
- rangerdanger94

I think he's done a great job IMO. Especially with all the injuries, he's found replacements and made the team better. Winnik did cost a lot, but that at the deadline you have to make that deal. They also retained salary allowing us to make 2 more deals.

Well now thats just silly. The blog would still exist, he would have just found something else to write about.

But if you're actually attempting to be serious, Id like to see you guys lose an entire second line, and second pairing of D and see how you play.

- thickman1178

People used to say "I'd like to see you lost Lundqvist and see how you play" and now that we've proven we can overcome it people are saying lets see how you play if you lost half your team"??

I think the Rangers have enough depth to overcome the scenario you proposed. And if they didn't, Sather would address similarly to how he dealth Gaborik for 3 depth roster players a couple deadlines ago.

I love everything Good ole JR has done, he has a win now mentality which is exactly what we need; and how knows JR may not be around that long he is older than Yoda; and slightly resembles him.

When it comes to mortgaging the future im ok with that as well, because we can always trade for picks when we need to.

No team has traded more future assets to win right now than the Rangers.

Not really, we like to talk hockey. When fans of other teams come here and trolls openly, we'll call you a troll. Like so

that 5 assist game Crosby had vs Buffalo was amazing though. I gotta give him that.

well, you guys are boasting about how many points Crosby has piled on this year.

Fact is he has pretty much done squat against real teams. Which is probably a big reason why you are looking for excuses as to why your team isn't as good as it should be.

- jimbro83

No, you asked if he is complaining about his "magical wrist injury" still. I said no, he is actually leading the league in points.

Winnik likely walks for nothing and you end up missing out on 2 solid draft picks. Constantly dealing your draft picks results in guys like Sill or Farham bring the top options to be called up.

Maybe your scouting staff just needs to be revamped. Your forward scouting has been pretty abysmal.

Not a good effort rangers fans.
I expect something better next thread.

Now, back to the topic. Injuries sucks. But I still think we hava a chance rocking our full possible healthy lineup.

I think it would be better with a coach who wasn't a Red Roof Inn manager looking fellow with bad hair and polyester bonded suits. The GM has given him the pieces to work with.

Winnik and Spaling should be centering lines and trying to cycle the puck for point shots. If they insist on playing Sutter, play him as they have been playing Bennett as a limited ice time wing. Their games are actually pretty similar.

The defense slotting is more or less fixed; the forwards are a jumbled mess of parts not well suited to their tasks. On the whole the concept of the 5 man unit is a shot that's not on the board.

How about that bank pass off the boards to Kreider last night? Holy poop.

Yet our prospect pool is loaded with NHL-ready talent. Maybe no game breakers outside Buchnevich and Skjei, but we have 5 or 6 players in the AHL right now that can hang in the NHL if needed.

I'm actually satisfied, I like that a lot of his deals were 1-2 year deals (Downie, Spaling, Ehrhoff, Comeau, etc.). I think with Johnston coming in as a new coach, it was to be seen how and what types of players would work in his system, so the 1-2 year deals gave him flexibility and the chance to walk away from players if he felt they didnt work in the system. With all that money coming off the books, and then some with either Martin or Hoff or both leaving, Adams done, Lapi, maybe Bennett playing himself out of Pittsburgh... I know its not much money a mil here a mil there, but it'll add up and give him time to fully construct a roster him and Johnston believe can thrive in their system. For a first year, I'm cool with it. I for one don't put as much stock in the draft picks that some people do, there are other means of acquiring players (signing them right out of college for example) And with the Penguins window getting shorter, they are going to have to acquire players to win now, so (frank) the cupboards! I know, sounds stupid, but I believe their are ways around it.

what was the better Crosby performance this year. The 5 assist game vs Buffalo or the 3 assist game?

They try that set play a lot but 9 out of 10 times they don't get the "kick". Got lucky last night but it ended up being a beauty.

This has always been a problem with the Penguins and their "win now" mentality. mortgaging our future for present success which we fail to achieve.

Winnik probably resigns if it's a decent deal we offer, if not so be it we'll use the money elsewhere. You guys have no first rounder for a few years correct? And haven't had one for a few years? You guys also traded you're best prospect in the Yandle deal which was an over payment IMO...

Our scouting is fine, we always pick dmen (or used to under Shero). We've hit on all of those picks though. We have Sundqvist, Kasperi and Blueger as our top forward prospects.

Except for scoring 5 in 2 games against the Ducks, the top team in the West, or 4 points against the Lighting, who are 1 point out of the lead in their division.

He is averaging a point per game against teams that are in the playoffs or fighting for the playoffs.

Keep trolling....

Ill give you guys credit. I thought without the king it would be a sinking ship. But their commitment to team D has really impressed me.

I still dont think youre taking 5 starters out of your roster and going to have the same success, but you do have a pretty phenomenal goalie, while we have a good regular season goalie.
