Im talking about the hyperbole of evaluating former hawks players. Just bc I suggest they would be a nice fit on the 3rd line this year does not mean I guarantee that if they hadnt been traded they would be in the lineup. Rather, based on their performance over the past 1.5 seasons, I know they could contribute on a 3rd line with Bickell-Pirri-Hayes. Now that line could score AND hit. cant we all just keep it civil?

I was and am. Just pointing out what an extrapolation is and that they are used quite frequently on this board. (i.e. what I bolded).

The Hawks are no where near the slowest teams in the NHL. As far as losing the room it's again a subjective statement. You could be right but you have no way no prove it any more than I do to show he hasn't lost the room. If the room is lost why is this team able to play very well against the best teams? And how is it possible for the team to be at the top of the standings of the league?

I see a team not playing a structure, a team of players trying to be individuals. What is the reason? I really don't know? But if/when they begin to play their brand of hockey they will be fine.

- paulr

It make even less sense when the Hawks keep getting beat by the weakest, non playof teams game after game. The reason the Hawks are still near the top of the standings because the team very good until Christmas( loaded up on points) and Our goalies played lights out to steal some wins...definitetly not because the team as a whole played great. I have seen only about 5 games in three months where the whole team played great. If you see it differently , that's OK we all have opinions!

Pirri and Hayes couldn't play for the Hawks Because the coaching staff didn't trust them to play a 200 foot game. It really doesn't matter what we as fans think.
- paulr

And you are probably right about that. But do Brad Richards and Kris Versteeg bring a 200 foot game? No.

It was reported Colgate's Kyle Baun had 18 teams interested in signing him. Bob McKenzie said today he is likely coming to Chicago.

Interesting. Any other info on him? Thanks Al.

ya i should have said I THINK instead of I know. I just dislike Richards bc if he doesnt have the puck on his stick he doesnt bring a whole lot to the table.

That's honestly where I think he ends up. They have tried everything with him in Rockford - playing him with skill players, with grinders, power play, penalty kill...nothing has worked. Over the last month he has lost his 4th line center role to Dane Walters, who they initially signed on a PTO out of the ECHL and have now signed to a full contract for the rest of the season.

Wonder if Baun will get in a few games with the Hawks to shave a year off his entry level deal, like they did with Leblanc and Carey. Usually one of the demands of sought-after NCAA free agents.

6'2 205... 18 teams interested....

One of Baun’s attributes that scouts have taken particular notice of is how he utilizes his size and strength. He’s a player that is difficult to move off of the puck, and he uses the aforementioned assets exceedingly well in gaining separation and in battles for loose pucks. Baun is an excellent skater with terrific speed. He has developed into a reliable scorer who can chip in goals at crucial times and can wreak havoc in front of opposing goaltenders. He also does an equally good job of setting up plays.

Can't be! No young player will sign with the Blackhawks! Not with the way Q treats young players.

Sounds like the right skill set to fill a need with the Hawks - basically a Kevin Hayes-lite. Only other guy in the pipeline with a similar skillset is John Hayden and he has not signed yet.

I'm surprised as well. I thought StanBo had a height limit for any draft picks or UFA signings...5'11" 185lb maximum i believe.

Kyle Baun, Right Wing, Colgate Red Raiders, Junior (6’2″ 209 lbs)

The Grandson of NHL legend Bobby Baun, the 22-year-old has good size. Baun has 13 goals and 28 points in 34 games this season. Baun looks like a power forward, with good speed, the balance and power to fight through checks, and the puck handling to protect the puck in the cycle game and drive the net. Baun has a decent shot, and good hands in close. He wins board battles and does a good job establishing position in front of the net. Baun also has some decent vision and passing skills which really help in the cycle game.

Yes. If he's actually the player in that scouting report, that's exactly what you need.

I'm not so sure on this signing.
Over 6'
Over 200 lbs
Doesn't know how to dangle?
Doesn't do O zone flybys?

I wonder how long it will take for us to teach him how to stick check?
None of this physical poop.

Al, any chance Pokka makes the jump next year. I've read he is already on the top d-pair playing in all situations. How about Carey? does he have an NHL future?
