Heck no.. I really like the kid. I think he's going to turn out to be pretty solid when he develops. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders, he hustles, and he's strong on the puck. From the little I've seen of him, I still think he'll turn out pretty solid.
- WarriorHockey21

He seemed really quick too. I'm all for a fancy deek, but it REALLY pisses me off when a players tries to deek his way throught the opposition every time and fails, but he'd try the little toe drag moves but he'd keep it under control which is always a nice thing. I'm excited to see more of him hopefully next year.

Schenn sounds like a decent replace for Sharp to me at a low cost. All we have to do is keep the Cups coming for those guys.

I don't think you understood what I wrote...

Schenn to Arizona for the pick they obtained from Chicago for Vermette.

Let's say Flyers magically win the lottery and get the 1st overall pick. Hextall drafts McDavid. He'll still put him on the Phantoms for 3 years so he doesn't rush his development.

This is why I would hesitate to move Brayden Schenn. I don't think he's been properly used this season by being an offensive player expected to tap in the puck, rather then a player who gets timeto handle it. In four seasons, I still don't think the coaching staff has decided to use him at center or wing yet. I still believe Schenn is better then Couturier and Laughton offensively but Couturier is the more balanced all situations player, which makes Laughton what? Are we really that strong moving forward with Giroux, Couturier and Laughton down the middle long term? Are we as strong as Lindros, Brind'Amour or Otto? Roenick, Primeau or Handzus? Briere, Richards or Carter? Definitely no where near Crosby, Malkin and Staal.

I completely agree with you. For me, offensively I rank them Schenn, Couts, Laughton, Cousins. Defensively it would be Couts, Laughton, Cousins, Schenn. Schenn is really the only one I could see in 2C role. Personally, if they could draft a high-impact Center and trade Schenn for a comparable LW, I'd do it. Couts/Laughton would be my fill-in 2C/3C for next year.

Oops, my apologies. Arizona still has a very brought future though.

Is the pick we got from Tampa their pick, or the pick they got from the Rangers?

Pretty sure its Tampas's own pick, but just wanted to be 100% certain.

I don't think trading Schenn or Laughton for a true winger prospect is necessarily sacrificing the future.

Overall, I'm kinda in the same boat as you. I think Laughton's upside is a better than average checking line center. I just don't think his offense will be there. I don't even think it would be at Couturier's level. And everyone knows where I stand on Couts as a 2nd line center.

They need a couple of high-end wingers. They have an abundance of centers. Simple math for me.

- TheGreat28

I would trade Laughton for a prospect ready to step into the NHL quicker then I could grab a beer from my fridge.

The Bottom line for me is, we've already invested a lot of development time in Couturier and Schenn, the same as we have Richards and Carter. I feel like Schenn has been poorly handled because we still don't know if he's going to be a centerman or a winger long term and this goes back to his rookie year when Danny Briere was here. When we drafted Laughton, I didn't think it was the right decision because we already seem set at center for the next 10 years at that point in time. Now fans are left deciding should we trade Brayden Schenn to get a defenseman and fit in Scott Laughton who had a less then impressive second go around with the club. It really shouldn't be this way.

Giroux also has an NMC.

That doesn't mean anything. Neither does the cap. Both are overblown.

Coburn comes back rusty from his third injury this season and knocks the puck into his own net a couple of times.

Plus I think Laughton tops out as a strong 3rd line defensive first guy at the NHL level. I dont think he will ever have the offensive game to be a 2nd line guy.

I still have hope for Couturier to be that guy. And when you look at him in comparison to Voracek and Simmonds, who both didn't really start to blossom until they were north of 25, there is still plenty of time.

Its not so much him as the depth we already have and the very real chance we draft a high end Center in this draft too.

If we draft Marner, Barzal, Zacha etc then Coots will soon find himself as the 3rd C.

i don't think they have soured on him at all. I think we believe he could get us a good return, trading from a position of relative strength (center) to reinforce a position of relative weakness (wing, top d-men)

I'm not sour on him, I just don't see his upside as being as great as Couturier's or Schenn's. Also, when we drafted him, to me this is the problem with drafting the "best player available". Was he really??

Mitchell Stephens - Saginaw
Pius Suter - Guelph (probably more in the 5th round range)

I'd draft him for the name alone

Zacha? The guy who has 34 points in 37 games in his draft year?

I don't think he's going to go top 10.
