The way I see it, is they can afford to wait a year or two and see how the d prospects pan out.

Maybe Sanheim is the only one who turns into a top pairing defenseman. Maybe none of them do.

But by trading G they could (in theory) get the final piece or two that they need to put them over the top. Would I love to keep G in this theoretical? Of course, but if there's a deal out there that puts them over the top I do it no questions asked.

- fecondo

true. i understand. if you can make a deal for him to get the piece you think will make you win the cup, then thats one thing.

but simply from a salary perspective of being afraid to have 2 top dollar centers isnt something i would shy away from, if giroux is still putting up the points by the time mcdavid would need a big deal.

No.

I'm pretty sure I can build a winner around Eichel with the flexibility that my mountain of draft picks, endless cap space and abundance of movable players would afford me.

Sid was in the Finals his 3rd-year, won in his 4th. I think the Sabres, with a few shrewd moves, could get on track to do the same.

(Tampa... they're great... but there wouldn't be much for me to do as GM... they're pretty much set up)

My answers, btw:

I would move Schenn for the 33rd pick

I would go to Tampa "clean," but Pittsburgh if I knew I would miss the first two years, so I could trade Malkin or Crosby and give myself a better shot in Year 3 with a different look

I would reluctantly trade Ryan O'Reilly, even if MacKinnon had not surpassed him and even if my job was on the line that next season

I would stay in Arizona but not trade OEL, and take my chances in Year Three

I would go to Florida

thats a tough one. i think schenn is frozen in his development right now, but thats still hard to say yes to, although im sure someone who knows prospects better than me might be able to have eyes for someone specific around then and pull the trigger.

but just on odds to me, its hard to move him there.

Post of the day for me! I was actually thinking about this at work today. I feel out of 4 seasons, both Couturier and Schenn have been stifled. Once by the lockout, the other because I don't believe our Coach knows how to use either guy. It's easier to find Coots a role due to what he brings to the table but Schenn on the other hand, I think he's a player who needs to be on a line where he has opportunities to handle the puck, rather then to be a pedestrian, especially on the Power Play. All season long he's been a player on the first unit less likely to touch the puck. Trading Brayden Schenn would be like trading JvR, which was extremely premature. If a team like the Hawks or Kings ever got a hold of Schenn, they'd turn him into a player, no question. I believe JvR will end up elsewhere before his career is over and play with real talent and make us feel every bit as stupid as Patrick Sharp has.

I'm for trading BSchenn in the right deal but man, it has to be a pick above 25.

Good For Ottawa by the way! They've done exactly what we couldn't, which was moved into the Wild Card spot, when they were behind both us and the Panthers.
