Feel free to answer the Tampa follow-up, if you so desire
- AllInForFlyers

I wouldn't trade Stamkos, either. The primary reason I chose Tampa was Stamkos

Over the Pens?

I know they're a bit of a mess, but you have 2 top 5 centers, one of the best defenseman in hockey and a solid goalie. I think I'd have an easier time making that work than finding 14 players in FA to get the Sabres to the cup in 3 years.

Yep; you think Eichel is franchise-level, but you know from watching that MacDavid is generational.
- AllInForFlyers

thats a good one.

is reinhart still projected as a first line stud type guy?

i typically think the player who gets the best player usually wins the deal, but that is a pretty immense haul.

damn good hypos my friend.

i would take the tampa job, but given the 5 year timeframe, i would still take the pens over buffalo.

they have just as good a chance as bottoming out by year 4, but i still think given the timed nature of the scenario i would take the pens.

Would you really want to take over Tampa, win the Cup, and have everybody casting doubt on your role because Stevie Y put all the major pieces together?

Same w/ PIT... if they win, it was Shero's team.

Buffalo... you could actually put your stamp on them b/c the whole thing's been freshly razed.

All of them are moveable except Scuderi though. Also have a nice little group of young dmen on ELCs. (not despres anymore Lol).

If I was asked by management to build a cup team within 3 years, I'd much rather have those knowns than hope that Eichel, Reinhart, Risto and Zadorov become great and luck out that some elite FAs reach FA

One issue I have with Buffalo is that i think they are already mishandling some of their top prospects. Ristolainen & Zadorov should be nowhere near the NHL. Grigorenko is a mess. That's the worry that I have with Buffalo.

Next question:

You are Phoenix general manager Don Maloney.

Only you know that if you do nothing but draft, you will not make the playoffs for three years, and you will be fired after that year.

But you also know that as soon as you are fired, you will be named GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

You can trade with anyone in the league except the Maple Leafs, and you can increase your odds for making the playoffs in Phoenix from 50-50 to 70-30 by trading Oliver Ekman-Larsson and get a two-year contract extension...but if you don't make it, you will not be hired in Toronto because you traded Oliver Ekman-Larsson and didn't even make the playoffs.

However, after a disastrous season in Toronto, you are told that you must make the playoffs in Year Two, or else.

What do you do?

So stupid to have them playing. They look terrible. Hasn't Zadorov gone through long stretches of being benched?

brain is too fried to compute the statistics haha

i think the coyotes have a HELL of a storm a brewing in their prospect ranks though. make all the jokes about where theyll be located, but people ooh and aah over the sabres prospect stash, but the yotes could be right there if the balls go their way.

Yep. They've really handled them in a way that could easily lead to them being like Myers or Luke Schenn, where they struggle with consistency for years and maybe never reach their potential.

Ottawa is fun to watch
- aflyerpower8

They just passed Boston. I think Boston is cooked and Ottawa has the 8 seed. Can't say that upsets me. I'd like to see Ottawa take out the rangers actually.
