New rules for movement clauses.

No Move/No Trade Clauses
No Move/No Trade Clauses that are negotiated as part of a contract extension
may become effective immediately upon execution of, but prior to the effectiveness of, the extension contract,
provided:
a) The Player is otherwise currently eligible to have a No Move/No Trade Clause, and
b) The Club with whom the contract extension is entered into agrees to make the No Move/No Trade Clause effective immediately upon execution of the extension contract

- MJL

OK. But how does that cover Richards?

His NTC was part of the contract but it hadn't kicked in. So he didn't have to be asked to waive it AND once he was traded, it no longer was part of the contract, even though he was moved before the NTC kicked in?

And wasn't all that before the most recent lockout, anyway? His contract wouldn't have already been in effect, before that CBA revision?

No offense, y'all, but I really don't care about Mike Richards' contract.
- 77rams

It amazes me that there are people here who rag on Vinny on a near daily basis that then say they would still take Richards back.

It doesn't cover Richards. Those are the new rules in the current CBA. Richards deal was signed during the previous CBA.
I've posted exactly what the situation is concerning Richards and his contract.

Rumor is that he is willing to force issue after season to ensure a trade or buyout. Retirement or mutual termination won't happen.

Would a new coach perhaps give him another chance or is this relationship to far gone.

How sad is it that the season has been reduced to this?

The clause is an accord confined to the signing team and player.
- Tomahawk

So, what you're saying -- and I'm trying not to be dense -- is that the Flyers and Kings permanently negated an NTC because it hadn't kicked in when they made the trade...but all other terms of the contract such as salary and term remain intact?

I think Richards issue is lack of motivation and will. Lecavalier on the other hand has a physical issue.

Any time a trade is made, all movement clauses in a players contract are voided. The only time it's not, is when a player who has a movement clause, makes keeping the clause intact as part of the condition of waiving his movement clause and accepting the trade.

Eklund believes we should give Mike Richards. My question is, what has he done between now and when he was originally sent down to gain this credit.

Has Laughton done anything since he's been sent down? Really haven't heard much. Phantoms 6th straight season out of the playoffs. Flyers a captastrophe and a near bottom 5 club. I know there's brightness on the horizon but really not too many other franchises right now are further down in the dumpster

I think some wish we would have started tanking sooner!! Haha
Realistically, hextall knew they weren't making the playoffs and sold at the deadline. I'm just looking forward to June. Hopefully the lottery and draft goes well and hextall then starts shaping this team. Maybe lecav gets bought out for cap space, and some moves are made to get a left winger and dman. I hope hexy is aggressive as hell.

Richards-and Carter- had NTCs, but they did not kick in until they were 27. When they were dealt to LA & Columbus, their future NTCs were voided. Neither has no trade protection at this point.

Laughton hasn't been an overwhelming force in the A. He has 15 points in 26 games with the phantoms this year. I think he should get another year, or part of a year, down there before coming up full time. Once he's a point per game player there, it's probably a good time to bring him up. He doesn't look out of place in the NHL, he just needs to get the point production to follow the good play.
