Well if the plan is to stockpile draft picks over the next couple of years, and develop the prospects picked with these picks, then they need to get as close to the floor as they can, as they'll need the cap space once these prospects come up for contract renewal down the road.

Why? They're developing these prospects right now. You do not at all need to be at the cap floor. You need to avoid long-term deals. They can still spend $ on short tern deals.

Trade Reimer now that his value is at its highest..............2 birds, one stone.

Leo Komorov is who you trade.

Will his value decrease between now and the trading deadline?

No way to know. But his contract is very good value and he brings elements very hard to find. They can get a first rounder for him imo.

To expand on the spending money argument. The Leafs spent money last year and turned it into draft picks and nice prospects. The returns for Winnik and Santorelli were terrific.

They have easily a top 10 prospect pool (#2 according to ESPN). They'll be consensus #1 by next summer. 12 picks mimimum. And they are close to 30th and the Pens are in a WC(Leafs get their first rounder if they make the playoffs). everything is working-out perfectly

Unlike Edmonton, the Leafs can draft successfully after the first overall pick.

for the simple fact they have Mcdavid I agree

But who can put together the rest of the team than can actually compete for a cup...I put my money on the Leafs over a team that traded Hall for....someone

I think so too. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see the Oil squeak into the playoffs this year.
