I mean there is a bit of a difference when an organization is forced to actively market their product and attempt to add and retain fans, as opposed to one where there's an established base that will be there forever.

The aprroach to the actual on ice product probably is the same either way, but one is going to go out of its way to establish a better relationship with its customers than the other is.

This is understandable. Leafs don't have an "it" guy. The League, no matter what Habs fans think, don't shove Leafs players down our throats like they do with Crosby and Ovechkin. Kids will follow the player, then the team.

Riders wear green.

Geoff Sanderson played for the local WHL team and then the Whalers.

I was 9 when the team moved and there is no team in Saskatchewan.

That was good enough for me.

Even at that age I found the concept of "Canadian" teams (frank)ing ridiculous, being that most of the players are Canadian anyway.

Of course, this didn't stop me from being a Saskatchewan Roughriders fan, but hey, I wasn't even 10 yet.
