Not sure why people get so excited for these ncaa free agent signings. Sure, it costs the team nothing but money, but how many have actually amounted to diddly squat in the last 10 years? The biggest one I can think of is bozak, and now fans want his head served in a silver platter. This kid will be flipping burgers in 2 years just like all the other ones.

Grabbing these free prospects is a good way to get the rebuild started properly. It opens up spots for hungry players, to replace the ones who feel entitled. Now we just start drafting and developing. I figure 3 years, then start ascending in the standings.

There's a fine line between giving a bunch of free prospects a chance and giving them spots they don't deserve. I'm all for free prospects, giving them spots and tanking for a couple years but we can't have more Bozaks either. If these kids turn out to be 3rd liners, treat them like 3rd liners.

Tallon wants Kessel and Polak and Nonis and Shan want their 1st this year and names being mentioned from the Panthers are Petrovic, Trocheck, Mitchell, and Boyes. Guys like Hayes and Schultz were high draft picks that refused to sign a contract allowing them to become UFA by 21/22 yrs old. Top prospects that wanted to go elsewhere.

This kid is a 23 yr old who was never drafted or offered a contract until now.

Hayes was more like Justin Schultz, a draft pick that did not sign with the club that drafted them.

Reilly(a Columbus draft pick) is this year's version of that.

I don't see the Panthers trading their first when they are hosting the draft, but Lamoriello did it with the Schneider deal, so who knows.
