Hockey News
Ilya Kovalchuk could be back in the NHL as soon as the 2016-17 season, according to a report. Sources have said Kovalchuk has informed his KHL club, SKA St. Petersburg, of his desire to return to the NHL. If he chooses to come back before 2018-19, Kovalchuk may need the permission of all 30 NHL teams. |

I think they are probably smarter than I give them credit for.
On the other hand, my opinions on what the Leafs should do have been proven correct more often than not and I am pretty sure a lot of other leafs fans can say the same.
The thing is, it isn't that we are geniuses, it is that Leafs management has been that bad for all these years. - Aetherial
for the most part yes. but there are times when we are right. when the Canadiens traded McDonagh for Gomez, i hit the roof. Bob Gainey didn't have any inside knowledge there. he did a stupid thing. think of all the ridiculous moves JFJ made (trades and signings). he was not smarter than you gave him credit for. |

Unlikely, the Leafs have never picked a Russian in the first round. - AdamFrench
It's a bit of a misleading stat, though.
The Berlin Wall came down in 1989, and the Leafs have traded away all of their 1st round picks since then. |

My guess is most fans won't like what Kessel brings back in a trade. I think it will be similar to the Nash deal.
1st rounder, A roster player like Dubinsky and some top prospect who may make the jump within a year or two.
Most fans I think are expecting a 1st rounder, a top player established already and then a top prospect who's going to be a top center or dman. I don't think this happens. - Aaron_85
I would be happy with the first return, and I don't think "most fans" expect the latter... |

if he were to come back I guess it would be to jersey. and why would a team like the rangers/isles agree to it? |

The Oilers called, they want to speak to you. - Aetherial
Are you implying that a 4th overall pick in a deep draft would benefit in his development by playing two additional years in junior? 1 more year in the ohl to dominate and he'll be ready to move up. Ahl is not an option and he won't benefit in junior an additional year... |

I still cant believe the raycroft trade. guy was rookie of the year yes, but the worst goalie in the league the year after. |

agreed. top 5 picks usually play right away, or go back for 1 more season. If we get a guy like strome, what more does he have left to prove in the OHL after winning a scoring title in his draft year? go back 1 year yes to dominate, play on team canada, memorial cup etc. but as a 19 year old against 16-17 year old guys 90% of who will never even get drafted? |

He has to prove he can carry a team imo. Doing it for 20 games is impressive, but OHL scoring is at an unprecedented high all around and he will need to have a big playoffs to really put stamp on his season. |

And it's not like there was much competition for the Calder that year. |

They should make it so that he'd have to pass through waivers to come back in. |

Exactly my point. I agree with not rushing prospects anymore but Strome would be an exception taking into account his high status. |

"The Toronto Maple Leafs are expected to throw Casey Bailey straight into the fire."
typical (frank)ing Toronto media. HE was the one who wanted to play this year. It was a requirement for him when he signed... smfh. |
