The Hawks are a comparison for any team I would think. If you want to see quality then most (I think) would agree that they are a team that has it across the board. Now take out 1 of their best & think a comparison to us would be Malkin (maybe)??

Their last 10 games 8-1-1 (without Kane). Wow!

Now I have no idea of their 'advanced stats' but I know certain players have & are doing the heavy lifting. They are getting the Hawks on the board with points - goals, not (well they might be I haven't bothered to check), driving possession to look good on paper for the Analytics review held after every game. They are SCORING!!!!!!! That is what wins games plain & simple. You can have the smallest blue bubble top right corner but if you don't have any points, or your team mates don't & the opposition does - you lose. You LOSE!!!!

Management may have to leave the coloured pencils & crayons alone for a while & start looking at good old video with certain players when they were SCORING! Get those videos out & study them. Memorise the plays & the positions & get some confidence back.

It's great to say they are doing everything right possession wise but that doesn't win games - proof is in the last 40 games. Something is not right no matter what some of these 'averages based' stats say. You count on average then that may just be the way you play. If you wait for the analytical pay day, then you may miss the bus!

Now let's go kick the poop out of these (frank)ed up sandy flea infested pussies.

Edit: now if Lappy wants to start punching on let's get behind him & encourage the pain not sit back & chastise him like some dipstick with a tow bar shoved up his arse!

Edit: I'm talking about our goal scorers if it wasn't apparent - you know, the top 6 guys paid to score.

Also Mike Babcock had a fantastic quote about about confidence;

'Confidence comes on an earned basis. You cannot give it to anyone. You have to earn it by doing good things'.

It seems like everyone in here already slit their wrists and burned the Crosby jerseys and bought Tavares ones instead.

Yep. The fanbase has a lot of the same problems that the team has. Whines when things don't go their way, quits in the face of a little adversity despite quite a bit of success this season. Lacks confidence at times.

I don't buy into the idea that shots are the be-all, end-all that "advanced" stats proponents make them out to be, but the Penguins will eventually start scoring and winning again. And suddenly both the team and the fanbase will be fixed.

Hopefully they get things rolling tonight.

Should kind of be like a home game but instead of poseurs in the stands, they'll be filled with transplants who actually care.

The way we've been playing I wouldn't recommend doing that.

Hawks roster after Toews and Kane:

Hossa, Saad, Versteeg, Richards, Sharp, Vermette, Bickel, Krueger, Shaw,

Defense: Keith, Seabrook, Rosi, Odouya, Hjarmlson.

Pens after 87 and 71:

PH and Perron, Kunitz is old and slow, Dupes is dead, Comeau is an avg 3rd liner.

Defense:

58 an older slower Martin and injury plague Hoff.

These teams aren't comparable.

Rugby league was my playing days game. I've ice skated once & got put on my arse so many times I thought - who the (frank) does this poop?

Never was & still not am a good loser. Any game that's competitive needs to be won - simple!

My point is that only a couple - or 1 in some games, is that the best has stepped up & scored. Sid needs to score no matter what you say about his possession.

Also, not sure if you read the Hawks thread, there a few of those you mentioned on the chopping block after having a so so season to date. It's not all roses for the Hawks but my point is the cream rises to the top & currently Toews is showing the way. Now you can say Sid is points leader & that's great - he's a great player, but he needs to score now.

Spaling has been fine for his role, overpaid maybe by .75 but that's about it.

Just imagine, Neal and BB for Hornqvist and Forsberg.

Boner.

The Hawks are a much deeper team than the Pens. That will change next year. But there is virtually nobody to step up in 71 absence. 87 is doing his job, nobody else is. Thats the problem. When 87 faces the top shutdown opponents and is still leading in pts it really shows how great he is. VS the Wings Zetterberg was his shadow the entire game. VS the Stars he had guys literally on his back. The question is why isn't Kuni scoring, Perron? Can the bottom 6 do anything?

Agreed, I feel like we'll win 4-1 tonight and everyone will wipe the tears. We then get Geno and Hornqvist back, call up Pouliot, get on a roll and hit the playoffs hot.

That's cap pressure. Who you move due to cap issues is what allows you to continue to be good.

Don't overpay for average or below.

Funny Sammy that old and slow Kunitz has more points then sharp, and Perron has more then Richards... Horny is comparable to Hossa considering he s played less game, Comeau has more points then Versteeg and Letang has more then Keith.....Maatta being out hurts a lot but Martin is solid

Is Chicago better yes... but its a lot closer then your comparison indicates

That is true, but we got the two best defenseman in that draft. Idk, hard to say if I would rather have Forsberg or DP. It's really a toss up. Kind of easy to say now with our defensive depth that we should have taken Forsberg. The Caps took Forsberg and Wilson that first round.

If Maatta were healthy this year, we'd look totally different.

Letang-Martin
Hoff-Maatta
Scuderi-?

Despres could have been traded for forward help, although he probably wouldn't have gotten an extended look so that could hurt his value. Maybe he was bottom pairing. Bortz for Cole? Could still happen. Point is, one of our defenseman would have gone the other way for a young forward. Beau + Despres for ?

I wish we had Maatta still

Yeah no!

I'm out of that loop for whatever that means. I think I saw some of that film about 30 years ago? Emilio Esteves was the man wasn't he?

Isn't the another where the pro hockey player becomes a figure skater with Magic Mike? Everyone wants to be like Mike don't they?

I don't watch too many movies, but.......
