it's worse than the malaise of the offseason, mainly because:
-at least poop happens sometimes during the offseason
-we still have sitting through the offseason ahead of us - BulliesPhan87
Best word of the thread so far: malaise.
If you could have worked in shenanigans, shillelagh, and/or curmudgeon, I'd have given you the award on the spot.

Tanking is proactively trying to lose, and I don't think they are going to do that. I just don't want them to win any more games resulting in a higher slot in the draft. It's pointless, and although the chance of winning the lottery is slim, it goes from 3.6% at 8 to 6.2% at 6. I take the higher draft pick and the few extra percentage points over meaningless wins every day. - wolfhounds
Yeah, I'm not actively rooting for wins here. Every team at some point needs to get bad in order to get good. Strike that, to become great. ( you can ham and egg your way to being good) If that's distasteful than so be it. Look at the standings. All those teams at the top took their licks when it was their turn. This city, for all of its teams, always looks to skip that part.(With the recent exception of Hinkie) |

I don't think they are trying to tank, I just think they are a mess right now and will struggle to beat anyone on the road. And, btw, I was at that game and in 84 and it was a total fiasco. The Pens just basically stood there and watched the Flyers play. Both they and the Devils actively tried to lose games that year and it was an utter disgrace.
The one thing I would like to see, once they are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, is for Mason to be shut down. Let him fully heal, there is absolutely no point in playing him in meaningless games and they may as well get one more look at Zepp before the end of the season. - BiggE
Mathematical or not, the Flyers have been eliminated since the Bruins/Devils weekend, at least mentally, and the workload on Mason should have been immediately lightened. But it wasn't. Instead he's been called out by the coach. And I don't doubt, short of another injury, that he gets the majority of the remaining starts.
Smart. |

I hope our coach splits goaltending duties for the rest of the season. Give Mason our MVP a bit of a break as he may need psychiatric evaluation at the end of the year. - 3flyerkids

He should get his pink slip as soon as the final horn sounds after the Senators game
You have to believe Hextall will want his guy in place |

Yup. It sucks, but then again, so does this team. I usually hate when the hockey season is drawing to a close, but this year I can't wait for it to be over so this team can be reworked. It's just a bad squad with too many awful contracts, too many under-performers, and too much mediocrity. And they are expensive. And it results in these terrible (frank)ing braincramps when you try to think about it.
I know everything can't be fixed in the summer, but this team needs a significant change or two next season, or else...

I know. Its driving me nuts how spaced out these final few games are as well.
The good news is they'll be coming out of this draft likely with either a top flight D man or a Center that eventually pushes Coots down to the 3rd line. They could always go winger too but it looks like Crouse might be the only one going top 10.
And then on top of that they still have the Coburn pick to play with. |

Thanks Bill. If the closed door meeting helped, we will find out tonight. If they lose against a team that has little push back, then everyone, except Hexy, should be fired. All season long, the players have talked the talk, but not delivered. This is one game that we should win. Even the Devils have worked their way back to the Flyers in the standings. The only way to go is up, but I just don't have confidence in this team to get too far away from the .500 mark.
Good luck boys. If you have any dignity, or energy left, at least play the rest of the way out of the season. If I was Hexy, I would start bringing up the kids to get them used to the pro level, and see how they react. Let the usual suspects sit in the press box, and get the message that their play is not acceptable.
Note to the Flyers, bring Razor and Reese back during the summer. These guys seem to work well with Mason as a team. |

I don't think so, I can't see him falling past Carolina. Having a top pair of Faulk and Hanifin sets up their D for the next decade. - BiggE

Agreed. I don't see Hextall doing much in free agency until the team is close to being a contender.
