Manny Malhotra! Carolina never traded him at the deadline last season and he signed with Montreal this summer. When healthy, the ideal fourth line center. I wanted him all year last year.
- SuperSchennBros

He's far from ideal. He's like Adam hall was a year ago - old and expendable. And the Flyers have these centers already on the team even without re-signing White.

I honestly just don't think there's a team out there that wants him, at any cost.
- hereticpride

I don't think Lecavalier is anywhere near the player he once was, you'll get no argument from me there. With this said, if he's not scoring, he's useless. Well, wouldn't it be smart to at least try to put him on a scoring line with scoring players?

Schenn-Giroux-Voracek
Read-Couturier-Lecavalier
Raffl-Cousins-Simmonds
Vandevelde-Bellemares-White

I know it isn't ideal for some but I've not seen a fighting chance to get this guy a fair shake all season.

Manny Malhotra is second behind Patrice Bergeron in faceoff percentage and on the best team in the east. Easily an upgrade over Adam Hall who is no longer playing and also available last summer. Cousins has play two games, Laughton wasn't cutting it at this level. Schenn is an average at best center, which is why he's playing wing.

FO's are overrated, tho... there's a lot of top-10 teams who don't win 50% (look at the Rangers)... some of the best FO teams are vying for McDavid (including the Flyers).

Yeah, a guy like Malhotra is going to win the draw, but with linemates like VDV and Rinaldo, and Grossmann/Amac or Amac/Schenn behind them, they're just going to end up losing the puck right away anyway.

Outside of the first few seconds after a draw, FO's have really little impact on goals/shots/chance generation, and therefore winning.

I get waiting to come into the NHL and get games asap but man, if its the Leafs you have to rethink that strategy.

Faceoffs aren't overrated at all. This is one of the problems that the stats community has. They lump every situation together, and just look at a statistic instead of actually looking at the game. If the Flyers win one faceoff with 14 seconds left in the Boston game, they likely win the game. Winning faceoffs at key points of games, and key situations is crucial, and very important, and can have a huge impact on winning or losing, as the Boston game proved.

If you don't win faceoffs, you don't have possession. Simple as that. If this is the case, you better have damn good forchecking forwards.

agreed and how many times do we sit there and piss away 45 seconds on a power play because we lose the draw and it gets cleared?

Hey, I didn't say he should come here.

The Sharks were looking at him, weren't they? Their GM is a dunce but at least he isnt being thrown to the hounds there.

If faceoffs weren't that important I dont think G would be taking 10 million of them either.

Hard to understand why Coaches like to put out their best faceoff guys for key draws in important parts of games, if faceoffs don't have an impact on winning.

i know but wouldn't it be nice if this was an attractive place for guys to sign again? friggin' sit mason out and tell the kid he can start 1/2 the games the rest of the way, and compete for a back up job next year. i guess we have way too many solid nhl goalie prospects to consider doing that

During the 48 game season Giroux was taking faceoffs as much as possible, which I could never imagine with still be happening today. My view of the Lecavalier signing at the time and the waiver claim of Hall in my mind was supposed to clean this area up, seeing how Couturier, Schenn and Talbot weren't very good. Lucky Couturier has improved but it's still an issue and frankly I'd be willing to pay that little extra salary for a guy strong at the dot and responsible defensively.

Hockey Night in Canada showing highlights of Tyler Myers shutdown down Alex Ovechkin. It's ashame that we weren't or couldn't be in on Tyler Myers or Zach Bogosian. Catching both of them since the deal was made, both look revived.

Picking 6 in this draft is like picking 3rd in quite a few other drafts.

Money's locked in, so only thing teams can compete over are perks. Hard to blame players/agents for going after them, in addition to the usual stuff like location/teammates/chance to win.
