In all cases in which an attacking player initiates intentional
or deliberate contact with a goalkeeper, whether or not the goalkeeper
is inside or outside the goal crease, and whether or not a goal is
scored, the attacking player will receive a penalty (minor or major, as
the Referee deems appropriate).

That's in the rule book. So, the right call was made.

Cool.

It's what my question was. Not allowed to hit a goalie anywhere..

I'm surprised goalies haven't figured out how to take more advantage of this...

yeah it's not like he went out for a loose puck with no one around. he made his move while Prust was already in stride. i like what Prust did.
- DoubleDown

I do too because Bishop was stupid for playing that puck.

Now that I get the rule, I'm OK with the penalty also.

So I would call this a good penalty.

And the guy he fought twice both times went to the ground trying to drag Prust with him.

Hmm. This is a good penalty. But today I learned, that hustling back to stop a breakaway is NOT a good penalty.

Not sure. Clean hit somebody and you get jumped. Take a shot at a goalie and nobody does (frank) all.

I would not say stupid, but first time I see a goalie try to play the puck to stop a cycle. But Bishop is really good with the puck.

Islanders will eliminate Pittsburgh in the first round. Pens will trade Malkin to Carolina with Sutter for both Staal bros.

A penalty is a penalty. It's hard to argue with that. But when the referees decide to let most of that stuff go (i.e. the hold on Pacioretty on the previous rush), you don't expect an arbitrary call with two minutes left in a one-goal game.

Why do players need to dive? I would wager its primarily due to the refs being terribly inconsistent with their calls. Nothing like letting the last 30 infractions go and then calling a softy. Though this is Eller we are talking about, the first player to get called for a low-sticking penalty in crunch time.
