Shootouts are dumb too. I never understood how a skills competition should determine the winner of a game that just went 65 minutes of regular play.

I have an idea! Let's do the shootout FIRST, before the game starts! That way, if teams are still tied after regulation, one team has a built-in incentive to go balls-out because they know a tie game means they've already lost.

That would be all kinds of fun.

When you're 60-8-12, the ties don't really matter.

Or team flip cup between periods, if it goes to OT each player takes a shot for every shift.
