what does getting him do to our re-build.. that gives us quite a few legit NHL players a couple stud rookies and a decent but young D core..

if we got both those, got a decent goalie and one more d man we may have a chance at the playoffs next season.. might.

- IndianaSabresFan

I think getting our future #1 goalie will be Murray's main objective this offseason
He's stated a couple times that he's contacted teams about their young goalies & it was something he'd pursue after the season
Whether it's a guy like Allen or Gibson or Vasilevskiy who is ready now, or maybe a guy like Subban or Fucale who might still need another year or so before he's ready...

I wouldn't be surprised if Grigorenko &/or Larsson are used as trade chips

Not quite.

If Mike Weber goes down, then we're there.

Y'know, I really like Mike but god his stats are awful.

Aren't everyone's for the most part though?
Even Moulson only has 10goals
I think Weber's play has actually been pretty decent this year
I'm ok with him on the 3rd pair for a few more years, until a young guy with more potential pushes him out of the lineup

I thought he game was pretty solid, too, but then I looked harder.

ScoreMobile has a pretty cool app that lets you compare guys statistically to other guys. Even comparing Weber to Meszaros is an ugly experience. Weber and Benoit are pretty close to one another statistically.

Jake Gardiner - who the Leafs have been howling about all year - is only a tad less impressive.

I believe he did. I was sad to see him go. Irbe seems to be doing a good job though (unfortunately )

I think on a team as bad as we are, it's tough to judge a guy's play on stats. Even against his own teammates.
Those stats seem to drastically change when the player is moved to another team, or even when his own team gets better.
Advanced stats are definitely useful, but they shouldn't be the "end all, be all" when looking at any players performance, and esp so on this crappy team

He's been on this team for a few years. Take a look at his statistics throughout his career so far. We can do better and I hope he's not on our starting lineup come October.

I'm not saying Weber is great or anything
Last year he was brutal actually, but this year I like his play for the most part. I think he can be a decent 6-7defenseman for us, and He's under contract for another year, so he will most likely be here.
At some point he'll likely be passed by some more young defensemen we have coming up, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
But to start next year, I think McCabe is still in Rochester & Weber-Pysyk will be our 3rd pair behind Bogosian, Ristolainen, Zadorov & Georges

I'm ok with him being a 6/7 essentially. You need some sort of vets on the blueline. If they don't (and shouldn't) resign Meszaros or Benoit, you're looking at having 4 very young guys back there with Gorges and Bogosian. You need some sort of other veteran presence around, even if it's just for practice situations, which is why I'm fine with him being a guy that's still here.

Doesn't he have 1 more year on his contract? Or am I wrong?

Pretty sure that's correct
He will most likely be here next season IMO
Which I'm ok with
McCabe prob starts next year in Rochester I'd think

Zadorov will be in Rochester IMO.

Ruhwedel IMO stays, and they might sign a UFA or trade for one.

Our defense is pretty brutal next year unless Risto takes a big step forward

I have admitted previously that the analytics thing is over my head and beyond my level of interest, but Gardiners raw stats are even worse than Weber's.

So if you're telling me that he somehow converts into a "darling" in the world of analytics, I'll tell you I got no use for that voodoo.

I consider myself to be pro analytics but i don't understand what the big names in that community. His stats have been pretty bad (granted he plays on an awful) and even on just the eye test he looks like he's constantly caught out of position or making dumb plays.

Last years they were decent. But in his own end he's unbelievably bad.

He's an example of how there is no context with advanced stats.

To quote Mike Schopp "The Leafs need to lean on Jake Gardiner"

Coller actually wrote an article on Shea Weber that was pretty good....Problem is it's so hypocritical to what Coller has been saying for a few years now.

Really?
I'd be VERY surprised if Zadorov ends up in Rochester.
Why do u think that?

Because he should be there now.

Psysk, McCabe, and Ruhwedel are more polished and have been waiting for a shot.

Zadorov is raw and is immature. I'd be very surprised to see him here and McCabe/Ruhwedel down next year
