I had gone to Cleveland for the UB game Saturday night. I wanted to stop in Erie and watch the McDavid game on the way back, but I just couldn't make it work.

What are their chances of upsetting West Virginia?

They were talking about this on WYRK this morning, believe it or not. Apparently in recent years the 12 seed has upset the 5 seed more often than not. Like 66%. They didn't give over how many years that covers though.

He's been in a bit of a tailspin lately, hasn't gained a point in 3 of the last 4 games. I hope he starts next year in Rochester.

Murray said the difference between Reinhart playing in the NHL vs AHL is 5-7 lbs., that he has the hockey smarts but he doesn't want him getting killed out there. I think he'll be here sooner rather than later.

"Good" scenario to see play out then to get a picture of how he reacts, especially with the playoffs around the corner.

Kootenay's website has him 5 pounds heaver than hockeydb. I know it doesn't mean much - it's like info in a media guide - but it would be interesting to find out if he has indeed put on a bit of bulk.

I thought I heard Murray say that he wants Reinhart to bulk up this summer. That kinda told me that he would start in Rochester next year.

They're coming in as only a four point underdog.

On ESPN's selection show, both Rece Davis and Jay Bilas picked UB to win.

It's definitely possible, especially when you consider the matchup is 5 vs. 12, which is the matchup that has been most prone to upsets in recent years. I think I'm going to pick them in my bracket(s). It's a homer pick, but even if WVU wins, they're not going very far, because, let's face it, nobody's beating Kentucky in that bracket.

Hopefully not for long, just to get into hockey shape and figure out that new bulk. 15-20 games might be good for the kid

My sister asked me if I'm torn with the matchup, since my wife went to WVU and her (my sister) and I both semi-attended UB (plus it's Buffalo in general).

I told her no - WVU has had consistent success in college sports so I've always cheered them on since meeting the ball and chain.

Someday, should UB turn into a decent sports school, maybe I'd cheer for them.

According to Sullivan, 12 seeds are 26-30 since 2001. 66% sounds a little high, even for that matchup, but, like you said, it could be correct over a certain span albeit much briefer span.

Everyone slumps. Ovi, Crosby, Giroux this year. I have no issue with this.

Agreed. And I'm excited to see how he does next year, especially if he goes to Rochester. He'll get top line minutes and be the pivot on the #1 pp unit. Let him grow there.

I very much doubt that he put any weight on during the season. Rob Ray talked about that pretty much being impossible at the beginning of the season. He said guys do what they can do just maintain their weight during the year. He said that between practice, games and all that, it's tough.

I remember Miller talking about that as well. He said he easily was down 10-15 lbs by the end of a season.

That would be awesome if they could win and get in the second rd.

Since 2013, No. 12 seeds have won 6 of 8 meetings with No. 5 seeds.

Having said that, I still think WVU is too good defensively to get beat by UB. It'll be close but I give the edge to W. Virginia

I don't either, I just thought I'd mention it. He's been on a tear down there and it looks like he got them in the playoffs.

In all seriousness, this one's going to be tough. Stephen F. Austin almost sounds like a lock. Wyoming was a Top 25 team before their best player got Mono, and he's back to form. 5-12 is always prime for upsets, but saying they'll go 3 of 4 for the third straight year is a gutsy move.
