f) both teams had 4 PP today, one was 1/4 the other 0/4 - Detroit's PK went from 1st to 20th recently... so sometimes they show glimpses of being #1 again. AND no Malkin changes things.

- BooBoo997

PP's being even doesn't mean anything in this game. The refs were calling the game based on the score, that's the only reason why the PP's were even. Not to mention when the refs were calling 10 min misconduct calls on the Pens when I've seen much worse not even get a 2 min call. I'm not saying the Pens didn't bring any of this on their selves. But clearly the refs have something against the Pens when they have two of the top players in the league and those said players can't buy a call. I'm not saying they should get all the calls but when you have talent like that they have or players like them and it's like pulling teeth to draw a call tells you clearly there's something wrong with officiating. Sid and Geno draw very few calls and yet douche bags coming here and say the league wants them to win.

no. GMs the summer before.

But the NHL doesnt care about Lidstrom or Datsyuk, near to the level of Crosby. Thanks for agreeing with everything else though.

- BooBoo997

They care so much that they instruct the refs to help the Pens out...yes, we know...but you know, the Pens are 2nd in penalty minutes per game....how does that happen, when clearly Crosby is the golden boy.

The misconducts are always a bit questionable because it's not often you hear what was said to the refs. That always seems to make some look weaker than others, but again, really tough to know if anything was said that triggered it.

This thread is a good representation of the game, total breakdown. Glad I didn't pay to watch this hot mess. I did grocery shopping and recycling after the first period.

Just got back from Spring Break where I didn't have any internet to watch the games. Besides this disaster of a weekend which I have obviously been able to catch onto just by looking at scores and injury reports, just wanted to catch up on a few things:

How's my boy Ian Cole doing? To a lesser extent, how's Lovejoy looking? Does the Despres trade look crappy or decent at this point in time?

How bad does the Malkin injury look?

How's the Winnik-Sutter-Bennett line looking?

- Victoro311

Cole is not your boy...Rust is your boy

I thought Cole has really exceeded expectations. Can't be certain after today's game but for a while he was on the ice for 0 goals against. Playing smart and aggressive. I've liked what Ive seen from him.

Lovejoy looked like the perfect partner for Pouliot which is a win in and of itself. He's had two poor games in a row now though, imo.

Malkin injury is just confusing. Didnt get hit that hard. Like Hornqvist's injury (who was the best Penguin on the ice today) .... the severity is unknown.

Sutter has been better with Winnik caring him along. I think Winnik is exactly what we want Adams to be. Excellent 4th liner, puck cycler, and PK specialist....decent defensive minded 3rd liner who can cycle and set guys up. Hasn't been physical at all.

I'm going to continue to be concerned about scoring goals until we prove otherwise in the playoffs.

Nope. Sorry. He's mine. I don't see you with a Rusty avatar. Claimed Rust as soon as I joined this summer. Watched him all throughout his Notre Dame career and he probably would have been my favorite player even if he wasn't a Pens prospect. Been looking forward to seeing him in the Black and Gold for about three years now.

@Dupuis: I will mindlessly root for any Domer even if its 60 year old Mark Eaton. Ian Cole is therefore also my boy.

I give you the big summary you asked for and all I get is more Rust talk...

Speaking of cawlidge boys...the Pens need to sign my boy Casey Bailey from Penn State as a free agent!

Anyway... DK is saying the Trib planted the Kunitz iron deficiency story to make an excuse...things are heating up!

ok, settle Pens fans.

a) "Legal Interference" that the Wings do, is just that... LEGAL. They been doing it for 20yrs and every can and most do it.... Do you really think this many officials? team GMs? would just let it go if it were illegal? but instead most GMs say they are the model franchise... can you explain this to me?

b) It is VERY hard to argue that the Wings get any benefit of the doubt, when they played over 50% of their games in other time zones for 20yrs when Pens can basically take busses to all of their games... and boast the NHL's Golden Child who doent go r All-Star games.

c) For as long as I remember, the Pens were never a defensive stallworth of a team. Lemieux era or Crosby era. CAN ANY Pens on here make a case of them being, at least theoritically a defense minded first club?

d) This was ONE game, after the Wings got thumped -- so naturally, at some point the Wings were going to dig in here... just happened to be today, and you had no Malkin -- Fleury didnt play yesterday, probably not 100% today either. So the Wings took advantage of that... surely be a different game should they be up to their standard.

e) As far as Pens behavior, most of that is thrusted upon the fact that the Wings will not punch, push, or fight back but instead go on special teams for their revenge. Pens are not the first nor the last to lose their patience with that. Also when teams go on like that... throwing lads out for almost nothing is the way the refs control the game... rightly or wrongly, again done this since the dawn of time.

f) both teams had 4 PP today, one was 1/4 the other 0/4 - Detroit's PK went from 1st to 20th recently... so sometimes they show glimpses of being #1 again. AND no Malkin changes things.

g) one game means nothing. I was pissed after yesterday's 7-2 loss to the Flyers and 24hrs later this. relax.

---

Pens were undisciplined and the Wings were focused. Im sure Pens will be better in their next game.

- BooBoo997

This is objective. I'm a Pens fan. Not sure how one can argue this.

after the game is already in doubt...but hey, that doesn't matter right? As long as you look at the box score and see that hey, Pens got 3 PPs...so the refs must have been very fair.
- Thorny

Woke up this morning checked the score - WTF? Shots wow, PP ok (precisely what you just said except it was 4), then looked at penalties - (frank)en woh boys what has occurred? Goals.

Ok couldn't get through the comments - appears the game was lost before it began & the guests that appeared after the lead was a considerable size & the Pens players were imploding, were very to extremely relieved they won a game finally. So their antics give me hope that tomorrow seeing we don't play the Red Wings they won't be on here & the PENS BLOG can return to that - blaming Scuds, Sutter & Kuni for everything in the world that is bad - oh & that our PP is also bad!

Now if those uninvited pests come back tomorrow can someone please tell them in no uncertain terms to GO (frank) THEMSELVES! wow I thought the Islanders fans are bad, imagine if the Wings actually had a team that someone thought could win a playoff round??? At least we all probably agree that the Islanders aren't bad, but the Wings?
