It's hard to understand how the Oilers could be so bad with all that talent. I like watching them and they should be winning more. When is Hall coming back? How could he be out so long without a broken bone? Just curious.
- sippyd

It was a fundamental mistake from the start.
They threw them to the wolves at 18 with zero insulation.
It wasn't that they weren't ready for the show, they were often our best players. (kinda like ristolainen playing 26 mins last night!) They just needed some help and insulation. The losses piled up and the confidence got shaken after a couple years of this. I can see it in them when things go bad. They sag.

Obviously stop gaps in net and defence while we wait on klefbom, nurse etc while throwing big minutes at guys like Ference or Fayne (the only types that'll sign in edm - and we have to overpay for even them) doesn't help. So we wait.

I'm really hoping mact is able to pull a rabbit out of the hat and acquire a top pairing guy to eat minutes, shelter klefbom snd svhultz and let nurse develop on his own schedule. (Plus hanifin as i assume we get pick 3)
A few wins early on could really Kickstart things. But a few losses in a row again and it could snowball.

Really don't know about hall. I'd assume unless they're unequivocally sure he's 100%, why risk anything at this point. This was one of the points of the debate with whatshisgeniussabreguy. The Oilers know tank. We wouldn't throw stones at anyone. Ever

Hall's the one I'm interested in watching. Then, Hanifin would be perfect for the Oilers. Just leave us with McEichel.

Nuge is developing into that 1c. It's taking time, but I think he'll be the cornerstone at some point. Not to mention how much more vital the center spot is than the wing.

But for now, hall is our best and most dynamic player for sure.

Hanifin would be great and there's 67%chance were picking third too.
But to get the opportunity at one of those top 2 would also be pretty great.
Even the option to deal pick one or two could bring a huge haul and fill so many holes that we can't via free agency

They'll do something dumb like widen the nets, or shrink the goalie pads first.
- sippyd

Not sure if they will do much with the pads. stick technology is allowing guys to hit 110mph now. I would be happy if they stopped letting skaters play with gwar shin pads, but you run into the same problem. shooting lanes would be more open if every guy on the ice wasnt dressed in batman riot gear.

I don't think there are any McEichel relevant games today, gives us a day off from the madness

Just win a few games dammit. I dont care if you win the lottery, im fine with eichel. Just promise me that youll move one of your wingers for help on d or g if you do. Stop being such a hugefemale dog.

How can you expect things to change? The same management that just changed seats.

There is no need for a complex solution to a simple problem.

Just call all the penalties like they used to after the last season long lockout.

Do that and watch scoring rise again, along with more open ice play and actual speed back in the game.

If some or most players don't learn to stop taking penalties because everything is being called, too bad for them and their team.

we'll win a couple down the stretch. you guys'll get your last place.
we haven't been that bad since nelson took over actually.

and I cant promise the trades brah.

hall aint getting moved.
we wouldn't get the quality we need in return for yakupov, so why bother?

that leaves eberle. we aren't a scoring juggernaut and we rely hugely on him right now. hes such a talented player.
but as hes that slick scoring winger type (sort of a shotgun rider, not the franchise guy if ya feel me) I don't think anyone's gonna trade a true #1 guy for him. and they certainly wont deal a stud 1 like mcdonagh/oel etc.
so its a slippery slope. do we gamble on a kid for eberle? I dunno.
and also, yakupov is just now turning his abysmal play around. but he still hasn't become near that sniper we hoped. so until he does, we kinda cant afford to lose eberle

we really don't have as many options as people think. getting pick 1 or 2 could change all that in a flash though

imo, mact aint the problem.
he hasn't had the job for even 2 years. and inherited a garbage fire.
its easy to blame him or use the nepotism calls cause he is an oiler guy. but he wasn't there when the rebuild started.
truthfully, I like his vision for the club. its mostly talk at this point, but I like what he says and the realties he tries to drive home when the braindead media ask him stupid questions. "if I was dealing with the media, apparently I woulda got much more for petry. unfortunately this wasn't the case. so I took the best offer I could"

I also think people overestimate the roster he took over, while underestimating the difficulties he has.

I think he needs abit of luck, and to hope to hit a homerun in a deal from a team desperate for cap relief. but mostly just patience. and continue to slowly fill holes with quality secondary players.
pouliot is way overpaid (price of doing business in edm), but hes been everything we hoped and more. fayne was a solid signing too.
I believe he'll try and get a quality goalie this offseason. but its tough. does he go for young high ceiling like lehner/jones or proven quality on the back half of careers like Anderson/niemi?

at this point, its sad to say, but I might seriously say darnell nurse is the most important asset in the oilers organization. hes our ristolainen.
and its nice to see klefbom playing so well. but again, we cant just throw him to the wolves.

gives us mcdavid and we might be able to fill those other holes in fell swoop.

so this.
I watch some of these big western team and its crazy.
pick plays and impedment over and over.
they know just how much to push it. but there literally coulda been like 5 calls in the first 10-15 mins when we played them recently

nurse, hanifin and klefbom is nice to think about.

but how long till theyre what we hope?

ugh. we someone now.
as I said, I believe the 1 or 2 could bring in a ton.
but outside of that, the 3 prob wouldn't bring near the package, so we'll just take hanifin....and yes, like it!

im hoping a package of pitts 1st + another pick + marincin might be able to acquire that top pairing defender we need from a team needing cap space.

33% chance we get mcdavid or eichel.
otherwise the consolation prize is hanifin.

I can live with that
