I loved both picks. I thought it was awesome that they took both. I never thought they'd be able to do that.

Im sure you can recall the reactions here during that draft though. Admittedly even i was upset (different reasons but still). It just seemed like his draft pattern would mimic what the city/fans were craving that year. I feel like in the instances where he didn't draft under major pressure he actually did an alright job.

Who's to say he wasn't right about that
- Sabresfan-365

He might have been. We'll never know. My initial point was that you could see the difference in the draft itself from a draft that Darcy ran to one that Devine ran.

Actually, I can't. I'm at my cottage on the lake when the draft is going on and I have very limited internet access while there.

Can't bring on a coach like Rex, trade for MCoy, give out big contracts, try and sell Buffalo to others players and then not have a franchise QB. Can't wait 2 more years, we need one now.
- SABRES 89

Kaps not a franchise guy though.... Rather keep the second then make a panic move

that draft, imo, was more of a kevin devine draft than darcy's
- Michael Pachla

the Zadorov pick seems like it. I think the Risto pick was pretty much the consensus of the group unless one of the big names fell.

Off topic and i know hindsight is 20/20 (plus i like Ristolainen) but i think they should've pulled the trigger on the 8th + sekera for 5th + McBain from Carolina.

pretty sure devine and his scouts felt that Zadorov was best player available...said something to the effect that he and his scouts had him rated much higher and the couldn't believe he kept falling, right onto their lap

Yeah. Those Blue and Gold episodes of the draft were pretty awesome. Really gives the fans good insight into how things go down.

not a panic move, it's been 15 years with no playoffs we need a franchise QB to move the team forward and EJ is not that. We are going to be pretty good next season you would think, probably mid to late pick we get. some players are better with change, maybe Kapernick and EJ are that.

This years draft day episode will probably be like 10 seconds long.

Murray: "Who thinks we shouldn't take McDavid/Eichel first/2nd overall"

Random scout: "Me"

Goose with the fight now. He's 1 assist away from the Gordie Howe hat trick.

Id rather keep the second and draft Hundley or Petty. Kaps not a franchise guy so Id rather draft one of those two then bring him in.

Those inside shows should be real interesting this year. You know people will be questioning Eichel about his Beanpot episode, and his seeming certainty that he was going to Buffalo, fair or not.

You people are brutal!!!! Grigorenko is only 20. Its not like he has only 10pts for the Amerks. He's probably gonna end up being the team points leader. He needs a couple more years in the AHL is all. Then he'd be Larsons age. Varone and Schaller are 24. You people are gonna run him out of town before we get a chance to see him be great. I don't want ROR! He's overated! I can't wait until Nolan gets fired! I'm sick of people bashing Grigorenko. Leave the kid alone! You're acting like Maple leaf fans. I hope Murray can bag Kessel too; Mapleleaf fans are ridiculous with the Kessel donut/hamburger jokes. He obviously plays better with some extra weight; so did Babe Ruth. Murray please go get Kessel and leave O'reilly alone.

I agree with the Grig half of this. And I love the overall passion and strong opinions. I say welcome, rafters!

Agree. And if everything works out, moving him to the wing would almost certainly require more time in rochester.
