Johhny T wont be laughing when Downs slots in on that first line for 3 or 4 shifts.

Downie was fantastic in TB with Stamkos and Little St. Louie.

Well chances are we will have home ice so we will be beating you most likely more often at the coliseum which will mean we'll have last change. Besides if he does that Boychuck will take out Malkin's knee and clutterbuck will drive crosbys head into the boards. We have the depth for JT to take a few games off do you? jk

I have the seats right beside the Penalty box. That beats your box seats... but bring me and my buddy some dessert :D

edit: I can also make the joke, that one of the tickets is a going away present for my best bud, a Reverend out in Dubois, who is seeing Rev Lovejoy's first game back here.

Anyone want to touch that silly irony?

I mean its's fine to have it in the blogs, but to the point where is not actually one word about the game and just advanced stats in every blog is overkill. I mean seriously, these are two of the top teams in the league and like Bartley said these games are always exciting.

Great they give the easier game (which we lost because we coasted) to Fleury and the showdown to Greiss.

Despres got a little emotional discussing the trade. Hit him hard.

What does "emotional" mean here?
Did he cry or did he curse the pens staff?

Way to play up to the fans' trepidation over the trade, Josh. If this is what can be passed along as professional journalism, I say let the papers all fall.

I have a real problem here with Sid's game the other night. Point race aside, we've seen for the first time a Sid who consistently isn't bringing it. A Sid whose attentiveness and compete level are shallow. A disinterested and unplugged Sid.

We are seeing Sid all too often turn into Kyle Wellwood.

We all know Malkin acts like a wild horse out there and has his discipline problems when he gets frustrated but he's at least been consistent. Malkin has carried the team when Sid has been injured. I suppose I could hope for injured/listless.

It's also a reason I think it would have been a great idea to play 87 and 71 more together this season; for all of the wanting of wingers and so on over the years we seem to have forgotten that they have always had each other to play with. Malkin may be the only guy on that team who could challenge Crosby if he's floating through a shift. I seem to remember Malkin screaming at Gonchar more than a few times after a shift went south.

I guess what I'm saying is that I hope Geno steps up as a leader this post-season especially if Sid comes out and sets a tone of vision-impaired cotton candy hockey.

Iron price and all that.

Yes, but we used to have game day blogs. Ever since #fancystats went mainstream it's all we've been given.

That just sounds like he is going to get hurt so easily... Blocked shots are great, its apart of the game and being a good defensemen. That many is absurd..

Agree with Sid and Malkin not playing enough together. For all of Discos faults 1 thing he excelled at was using upcoming TV timeouts to his advantage and throwing the 2 headed monster out there..

I agree with most of what you're saying. Malkin has been a beast. Sid needs to bring it a little more as a captain. Sometimes he disappears for long stretches and we all know he's better than that. I wonder if it is a motivation thing or personal problem off the ice. He's no robot as most here think.

Since the Despres-Lovejoy trade occured, I've said that my main issue isn't the moving of Despres; Its the lack of return for him that gets me.

The Penguins still have a solid D unit going forward w/ Letang, Maatta, Pouliot, Harrington, & Dumoulin. Guess you could add Cole into that mix & Scuderi as well (for better or worse). However, the Pens are still lacking young F's that can grow into a Top-6 role or Top-9 role. If Despres had been swapped for Etem or Smith-Pelly, I'd have no issue with the trade. Still, Despres for Lovejoy just seems like a lateral move that makes them older and more expensive.

Agree 100%!!! I skip over every graph and chart and there's pretty much no meat left after that. I liked the guy from last season much better.

At this point of the season let's compare all the charts and award the cup. We can do it in a conference room with a spread of dried out bake goods and luke warm watery coffee.

I think it's more like the Penguins really wanted Lovejoy and Despres was what it cost to get him. Not Harrington, Dumoulin, & all. Lovejoy didn't become available until the Ducks acquired Wisniewski and knew Pittsburgh could provide return on Lovejoy, the guy Wisniewski was replacing in the slotting. It's great managing by the Ducks. Maybe Despres becomes a nice player, maybe he doesn't but Anaheim no longer needed Lovejoy.

Don't expect to see Despres in the Ducks' lineup once their D are healthy. He's a 7 on that squad.

Lovejoy is a guy who is proven to be a great compliment to a player almost exactly like Cam Fowler in Pouliot. It was a slotting move, a poise upgrade, and a more certain salary situation.
