I suggested this as well. Perron Crosby Hornqvist clearly isn't working.

72 past 5 games-6 points
87 past 5 games-6 points
39 past 5 games-3 points

And that includes that line being shut out against COL. Ever since 72 has been back with 87 and 39 that line has been good.

Perron has had 7 points his last 15
Sid has had 12 points in his last 15
Hornqvist 9 points in his last 15 (just coming back from injury and shaking off the rust)

The Pens are not going to win every game. There will be games like last night. Heck, all of February was like last night. They played like crap and deserved to lose, But even when playing like crap, they still had a good change to take that game to OT in the 3rd. It was a Geno finish on that 2nd crash away from being a 2-2 game. And this is when Sid has no shots on goal - why doesn't he shoot? Maybe he needs the same shrink that MAF went to.

The Pens are in the playoffs. R-E-L-A-X everyone.

Weird tangent here, but it's a gloomy day in Penguinland and i'll take the opportunity for you to get to know me better. Maybe it will take the edge off the next time I write something considered heresy.

I love Swedish hockey. I think it's the most beautiful style and I have always thought that the best hockey players come from Sweden. It helps that my father's family is mostly Swedish. My favorite player from the 90s was Forsberg. I pulled for Colorado throughout the Forsberg era if the Pens were out of it. I'm still very aggravated that Penguins passed on Filip Forsberg. I'll take Hörnqvist, I guess. The only way Olli Maatta could be better is if he was Swedish.

What I'm getting at is that I have a gigantic man crush on Avs Captain Gabriel Landeskog, pictured here:

He can make the killer Swedish pancake:

Just sayin.

He fails to cover people regularly but there he is on the PK, night after freaking night. Ugh!

I still like this trade if e.stall stays in Carolina. And we're not resigning sutter. Trade sutter ehroff at the draft for kesler. Or at next season deadline sutter Harrington dumlion kesler will cost more but still like it. Makes our center position thougher down the middle.

I am actually very partial to Finnish hockey. Best hockey smarts in my mind. They might be smaller but have always found a way to make that an asset.

Yeah. They always show up and win a medal, usually Silver. Incredible legacy of hockey in Scandinavia. The Finns seem to use the ice and the blue lines better than anyone. They don't give an inch.

I forget the figure exactly but Orkskoldsvik (home of MoDo which has produced Forsberg, Naslund, the Sedins, Hedberg, old favorite Samuel Pahlsson) has a population of about 29k but has produced the NHL talent as though the population were 165k.

Has anyone seen the Slovakian Jrs U16 and U18 team? Jesus are they a pain in the ass. I've never seen anything like it. It's like the Finnish checking style but with Soviet Bloc puck skillset and they're really chippy and aggressive. I think Pittsburgh should draft a bunch of those guys?

I said this when he was drafted that he would not amount to much on this team. So far I a correct. He needs a change of scenery and even that might not help. When was the last time he showed he could score goals like a first round draft pick.......NEVER. Not in college and not in the minors. Trade him before the rest of the league figures it out. Scuds was being carried by Despres all season long. He does the same thing every shift When he has the puck in the offensive zone they don't even bother to cover him. What does that tell you. No puck skills whatsoever. What a horrible signing

Not saying anything you said is wrong but why does Scuderi deserve to sit over his gaff but Pouliot shouldn't deserve to sit over his? Scuderi has been solid for the most part and his role on the pk really can't be replaced, Pouliot's role on the pp can be replaced. I'd be more confident in a veteran player bouncing back after a mistake than I would a rookie.
- jaydogg1974

No, rob actually is one of our worst PK guys. His desperation style of stay at home and lay on the ice so often gives up a lot of shot attempts and scoring opportunities. A more aggressive and active penalty kill tends to have a better result. If anything, his lack of PK success this season should make sitting him easier.

Finnish hockey is my favorite as well. Swede's and Russian's close behind. Frankly, I think most of Canada is a boring hockey game, the oversized Alberta forwards with little puck skill bores me. Finding that balance of power and finesse is tough, but some clearly have it

Canadian/American hockey is dump & chase. Boring. Pure violence. Like a gladiator sport. European is mostly about finesse ... carry the puck in, glide between the d-men. I like the bigger rink of the international hockey, too. Much more pleasant to watch.

Russian hockey is like studying tea or the different kinds of seagulls that inhabit the massive graveyard we call Earth. It's so very fascinating but super specialized; to the untrained eye it looks the same.

I like(d) watching East-West teams play North-South teams when there still were East-West teams. To listen to many of the players after the trade deadline re: learning a 'new' system, its as though most teams play the same way as a blueprint and it's just details that separate the systems. It seems like these days you can either trap or you can't; once the playoff obstruction comes into play the teams with a median of talent:discipline go farther than the talented teams moreso than in the last few decades.

Non-sequitur but how about Jason Botteril? I think he really showed his value this season as the Penguins upgraded their bottom six, PK, and defense pairings with literally no cap room. GMJR did the horse trading to be sure but that's a people-people relationship thing. Botteril must have the most obscene dashboard of liquid cap heat graphs running SQL like crazy.

Imagine how we in DC feel about Filip Forsberg - might go down as the worst trade in history if he continues to progress. My favorite Swede, though, is Nick Backstrom - ok, I'm biased, but he is one of the best (and certainly one of the most underrated) players in the league. I don't know if people who don't watch him every game appreciate how good he is.

There is no hate for Backstrom on this board. Just about everyone here recognizes just how great he truly is. It's no wonder that when he is playing that elite two way hockey Ovi's numbers go way up. They are as dynamic a duo as it gets.

What the heck is wrong with Sid? Where is the dominance? Where are the shots? Saving up the juice for post season?

You really can't say enough about him. He probably wrote a few books on how shero screwed up and is using that to fix this team now. He is savvy, smart, and clearly keeping an eye on the future as well as right now. Cole as an RFA with limited playing time in his career is goign to be easy to retain. It makes Scuds expendable too.
