Hate to not shut up but c'mon. People screamed about their throbbing butt holes last summer when we didn't go out and get a veteran QB in the offseason, so we do this year and people scream about their aching butt holes.

Tell me how Matt Cassell is not = to Jake Locker, Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett, Kyle Orton, Mark Sanchez or any other of those bums you all(*) seem to have wanted for more money instead of giving up a crap draft pick?

*= you all as a placeholder for those who's bums hurt over the Matt Cassell trade

- DynamicThreads

You made my argument for me. If he is only equal to guys you can have for free then trading picks for him is foolhardy.

So a second yr sixth rd qb grooming your potential franchise qb?
- lung3r

There will be no grooming. Winston and Mariota are both starting day 1

I wouldn't be shocked if the Bills threw an offer to the Raiders to grab Mariota at 4

after the last 30 hours

I don't see Oakland trading out when they can get Amari Cooper or Kevin White. That team loves fast WRs

Define "free" and tell me which one of these "free" quarterbacks would settle for 4.5 million per for 1 season?

Cassel is the cheapest best option no one thought of. Hoyer is going to want buck and term, so is Locker, so is Mallett. Maybe, MAYBE Sanchez signs for 2.5 and 1 again. But all these guys are far from "free". Swapped draft picks and throw in a late round pick in a draft where you're already missing your 1st is not in least foolhardy.

they were talking about the trade on nfl radio while I was heading into work

They said Hoyer didn't have the arm strength Cassel has

They have Hoyer as a good fit for the Rams, where he could be the starter at a moments notice

They also suggested the Falcons give the raiders a 7th for Schaub

Cassel trade doesn't excite me, but I do not hate it. QB's performance is so much based on the O line and WR's and Cassel hasn't had crap to work with since 2010. Give him and EJ a full camp and see what this staff can do.

My 2 cents

Mariota may start if he goes to the eagles where he wont have to lineup under center and do more than one read..winston on the other hand you better have someone there to show him what it takes to play in the nfl.... i just dont get what the big deal is with giving up a 7th next yr for cassel...who knows why they chose him. Like i said lets see what it is when camp breaks before we all start complaining.

Mariota will be a system qb and the eagles will mortgage the farm to get him at 5

I think Winston is a bust, and I watch a lot of FSU games

They also gave up a 5th for a 6th. Unnecessary.

the Raiders will be respectable 2016 and beyond

Del Rio is a great coach

That roster here in J'ville was pathetic and he still always kept them around .500
He got the shaft for 2 lousy GM's

I look at it as giving up a 6th rd

a 7th and 5th goes out, averages to 2 6ths and a 6th comes back

Yes. They gave up a 5th and got back a 6th. And they get Cassel for next year's 7th
