So here's what Phil actually had to say:

And I agree with him.

Ill still take the opinion of an ex player any day over douche bags like Simmonds.

Sure, but I'd rather hear from somebody who actually has an intelligent opinion than either of them.

I actually do too.....but still want him out of here. Not for his stance, but the way he plays. One trick pony that can't be relied on, game in and game out. Our greatest 40 goal scorer, that's never scored 40, but gets paid like one.

Why does being a player make one credible? Just because you played the game doesn't mean you're actually good at evaluating the talent of your peers.

it doesn't, but the whole pro experience is much more believable coming from an ex player..

If it's ODog, it's about the entertainment value. He also has a fans perspective on what goes on, during a game. He's a jackenapes, but he's entertaining.

Let's turn our attention to where might be the best fit for these players:

Kessel - SJ, Ari, Min, CGY

Phaneuf - LAK, Dal, EDM, Col

Lupul - Van, NJ, NSH, WPG

Bozak - Fla, Van, Edm, Col

Bernier - SJ, Edm, STL, NYI

Thoughts?

- H8terade

I'd love to see Kessel in a CBJ uniform, and we do have a lot of prospects and young guys to ship up there...

He's entertaining, but his opinions on hockey and players in general are some of the dumbest I've ever heard.

2 rings and constantly in the playoffs. They do their best work in big games, when it's all on the line. They don't disappear for long stretches at a time.

...however, you look at allot of successful coaches in the NHL over the years and allot were marginal players, so a guy like O'Neil may know a thing or 2..

imo, you could interchange kessel and kane. if kessel had been in chi from the beginning of his career... 2 rings and constantly in the playoffs. doing his best work in big games, when it's all on the line. not disappearing for long stretches at a time.

Kessel is Kane... Put Kessel with a proper center and no one is female doging about him eating at Harveys

Jeff O'Neil wasn't a "marginal" player for most of his career... The guy was a drunk and got by on his talent and a willingness to play through pain.

In his WORST season he had 27 points. He wasn't a star for most of it, but he was a top 9 player his entire career.

The problem is that the sports media business has gotten very big and very confusing. There are so many people covering hockey and the lines of various parts of the media business have become blurred.

There are those that see themselves as serious journalists, newspaper columnists, rumour insiders, radio hosts, colour commentators, regular panelists, entertainers, general buffoons and Don Cherry all talking about the same poop from different angles.

Making things worse is that they all appear on each other's shows and go on and on over the same topics every day. Add in Twitter where everybody feels the need to join in every debate and you end up with a very loud sports scene that the players pay attention to. Padding in the fact that it's the Leafs and that they are playing like crap and things get out of control.

None of this makes the team worse (except to the extent that UFAs and maybe Mike Babcock may not want to come here), it just makes it very unpleasant.
